BILLY G. MEFFORD

NORTON, VA - Billy Garland Mefford, 72, died Monday, November 26, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN. Born to the late Fred and Essie (Hall) Mefford, he was a lifelong resident of the Norton area.  Bill was retired from the Public Works Department of the City of Norton, and was a devoted member of the Country Cabin.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Bloomer Mefford.

Surviving are his children, James Mefford, Dryden, VA and Rebecca Mefford, Norton; six grandchildren:  Johnny Lee Diets, Jr., Kimberly Diets, James G. Mefford, Kara Heino, Ahsley Mefford, and Noah Sparks; four great grandchildren:  Haley Jade, Laela, Avery, and Kinleigh; a brother Claude Delano Mefford, and a sister, Doris Powers.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Robbie Fultz officiating.  Family and friends will gather at 10:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home where they then will travel in procession to the Laurel Grove Cemetery for burial.


TAMMY LYNN CASSELL

NORTON, VA - Tammy Lynn Cassell, 41, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at her home in Norton.   She was a graduate of John I. Burton High School in Norton, and worked at Mary Ann’s Beauty Shop for a number of years.  Tammy attended the Light House Church in Wise.

Surviving are her husband, Michael Cassell, a daughter, Haley Cassell, a step daughter, Michole Bevins and son-in-law, Brad, her parents:  Darrell and Nancy Collins, a sister, Denise Collins, one nephew, Jacob Collins, her grandmother, Dorothy Salyers, two half brothers, Alex and Holden Hunnicutt, and  several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Monday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Roger Barker officiating.  Family and friends will gather at the funeral home by 10:30 Tuesday morning, where they then will travel in procession to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for interment.


KAY RENE PERRY HERRON

NORTON, VA – Kay Rene Perry Herron, 63, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Holston Valley Hospital after a brief illness. She was of the Baptist faith. She was born May 3, 1949 and was a lifelong resident of Wise County. She was the daughter of the late Cleveland Perry and Gladys Cox Perry. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by three brothers, Clayford Perry, Herman Perry, Carlos Perry; two sisters, Helen Perry Via and Lucille Perry Cox.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Charles Ray Herron of Norton, VA; 3 daughters, Vonda Herron Powers and her husband, Wayne of Norton, VA, Tammy Herron of Norton, VA, Kimberly Herron of Ohio; 1 son, Nathaniel Herron of Norton, VA; grandson, Ryan Damen and his fiancée Whitney Mitchell of Norton, VA; sisters, Mona Perry Browder and her husband, Major of Gray, TN, Lena Perry Hickman of Kingsport, TN, Geraldine Perry Berkley of Dover, PA; two brothers, Onsby Perry and his wife Emma of Nicklesville, VA, Delano Perry and his wife Karen of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

At Kays’ request services will be private.


RANDY LANE

NORTON, VA - Randy Unal Lane, 56, went to be with his LORD on Sunday, November 11, 2012.  He passed away at his home in Norton.  Randy was an employee of Norton Community Hospital for thirty six years, and was a very proud supporter of the John I. Burton High School Raiders.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Robert Lane; and two sisters, Patsy Morris and Sue McFarland.

Surviving are his wife of twenty nine years, Nancy T. Lane, four daughters:  Brittney Shepherd, and her husband, Jason, Whittney Lane, Kelli Lane, and Cristian Fultz; a son, Bradley Lane; three grandchildren:  William, Jessee, and Cheyenne Shepherd; two brothers, Donald Lane of Maryland, and J.C. Lane, Twin Springs, VA; a sister, Brenda Lefurgey, and a host of relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 8 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Jimmy Mitchell and David Lee officiating.  Family and friends will gather at 10:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home, where they then will leave in procession to the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for interment.


GARY LEE HAMPTON, SR.

NORTON, VA – Gary Lee Hampton, Sr., 69, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was a retired coal miner and enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Jackson Hampton and Thelma Dobbs Hampton and two brothers, Jackie Hampton and Randall Hampton.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Morette Collins Hampton of Norton, VA; 2 sons and their wives, Gary and Lisa Hampton of Norton, VA and Terry and Rhonda Hampton of Norton, VA; a daughter and her husband, Michele and Sean Hampton of Coeburn, VA; grandchildren, Hanna Hampton of Norton, VA, Olivia Hampton of Coeburn, VA, Ashley Lake and Jonathan Lake; 3 great grandchildren, Deel, Michael and Elijah; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth amd Elise Hampton of Charlotte, IN, Glenn and Glenda Hampton of Roanoke, VA, Ronald and Janice Hampton of Big Stone Gap, VA, Harold and Bonnie Hampton of Stonega, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Glenn Hammacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.


PATRICIA DOBBS PRICE

KINGSPORT, TN - Patricia Dobbs Price, 53, went to meet the LORD, Thursday, November 8, 2012.  She was a graduate of Central High School and went to Tennessee Tech on a music scholarship.  She finished her degree in computer science from East Tennessee State University.  She made a career in computer science, and was employed with Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Columbia, SC.  Later, she joined Metlife in Greenville, SC, where she worked as project manager for several years before being diagnosed with MS.  She returned to Kingsport, where she resided since 2006.

Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Billy Ray Dobbs of Kingsport.  Surviving are her daughter, Jessie Borquin and her husband, Glenn, Greenville, SC, a granddaughter, Sofia Borquin, a brother, Ray Dobbs, Murfreesboro, TN, and her mother, Eloise Joyce Dobbs, Kingsport, TN.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 PM Sunday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA.   Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Fred Redman, and the Reverend Freddie Redman, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gray Family Cemetery, Guest River Road, Norton, where she will join her grandparents, Floyd and Hester Stidham of Norton.

AVERY WILLIAM WOOD

NORTON, VA – Avery William “Billy” Wood, 38, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at his residence in Norton. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Avery William Wood, Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Deborah D. Barnette of Pennington Gap, VA; 2 brothers, James Wood of Norton, VA, Brian Keith Barnette, Jr. of Pennington Gap, VA; 2 sisters, Teresa Stanley of Marrs Hill, NC, Robin Stanley of Pennington Gap, VA; grandmother, Nesbith Sturgill of Norton, VA; 2 nephews and 4 nieces.

The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 PM Monday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Garrett Lee officiating.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home to defray funeral costs.
