JEAN BRICKEY DAVIDSON

NORTON, VA - Jean Brickey Davidson, 83, died Monday, October 29, 2012 at Wellmont Hospice in Bristol, TN.  Born in Dorchester, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Mae Teague Brickey.  Jean was retired from the former C & P Telephone Company and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.  As a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church, she loved singing in the choir and leading the congregational songs.  She was the widow of Richard Davidson, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Brickey.

Surviving are her daughters, Donna Davidson, Jasper, Texas, and Debbie Davidson, Bristol, Virginia;  her son, Paul Richard Davidson, Jr. and his wife, Roseanne, Richmond, VA: a grandson and his wife, Doug and Amy Powers, Jasper, TX, and her granddaughters:  Kristin Davidson, Richmond, VA, and Jessica Davidson, Charlottesville, VA; her great grandchildren: Specialist Ian Powers, US Army, Afghanistan, Alex Powers, Morgantown, WV, and Rhiannon Powers, Jasper, TX; her sister-in-law, Emogene Brickey, Pigeon Forge, TN, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday, November 1, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Lee Kidd officiating.  Family and friends will gather Friday morning at 10:30 at the funeral home, where they will then travel in procession to the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for burial.


JUANA ASTOVEZA AMERICA

NORTON, VA - Juana Astoveza America, 88, died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center.  Mrs. America was a native of the Philippines, born to Fermin and Segundina Astoveza.  She was the widow of Inesio America.  Mrs. America moved to the United States in the 1970’s and became a U.S. citizen.  She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Norton.

Surviving are her children:  Dr. Amor Barongan, Armerito America, and Arsenia Ruzal; her cousins and their spouses: Dr. and Mrs. Ding Amarga, Dr. Norma Gochuico, Dr. Lamberto Ruzol, and Mr. and Mrs. Fidelito Lavina; eleven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  A rosary will be offered at 7 PM.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday, October 30, at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Virginia Avenue in Norton, with Father Timothy Drake officiating.  Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church.


SHELDON "SI" INGRAM

NORTON, VA - Sheldon "Si" Lewis Ingram Esq. passed away at his home on October 25, 2012.  Si was born in Norton, Virginia, December 20, 1955.  He graduated from J.I. Burton High School where he was a member of the Key Club.  He went to the University of Tennessee Knoxville and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration.  After working for several companies in the Norton area including the Cline Atkins Cline Law firm, he went to the University of Richmond and received a Juris Doctor degree from the T. C. Williams School of Law.  After being admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1993, he was an associate for Cline Atkins Cline for a time and then in private practice in the Norton area.  He was appointed as a special justice in 2000 and resolved disputes among inmates at area prisons.  He was a member and held several offices in the Gen. Henry A. Wise chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  He enjoyed outdoor activities, music festivals, good jokes, and socializing with his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Lewis K. Ingram, M.D. and Dr. Ernagene F. Ingram, M.D.

He is survived by his siblings Jefferson Lee (Nancy), Leslie Ann “Gussie”, Gordon Randall, and Robin Edward.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday November 2 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

CARROLL L. ADAMS, SR.

NORTON, VA – Carroll Lee “Shag” Adams, Sr., age 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Norton he was the son of the late Walter and Viva (Adkins) Adams. He retired from Westmoreland Coal Co. in 1986. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War as a Military Police. He attended the Norton Christian Church for 34 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Kay Adams and brothers Cofer and James Kyle Adams.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 58 years, Margaret Darnell Adams; a daughter, Rhonda Salyer and her husband, Kenny of Wise, VA; a son, Carroll Lee Adams, Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; grandchildren, Shawn Adams of Draper, Utah, Melanie Adams Daniel of Randleman, N.C., Amber Salyer of Coeburn, VA and Brad Salyer of Norton, VA; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Elmer Adams; 4 sisters, Jeanette Greear, Ada Kiser, Donna Stacy and Ann Stacy; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 1:30 PM Sunday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens with Pastor James Wells officiating. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:00 PM Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.

FREDDIE JIM FULTZ

BIG STONE GAP, VA – Freddie Jim Fultz, 76, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 in Mountain View Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the UMWA and was a retired coal miner having worked for Clinchfield Coal Company for 31 years. Freddie enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a member of the Spirit and Truth Worship Center in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bridgette Renee Fultz.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred Fultz of Big Stone Gap, VA; 4 sons, Gregory Fultz of Big Stone Gap, VA, Terry and Ruby Fultz of Big Stone Gap, VA, James Fultz of Norton, VA and Tony Fultz of Big Stone Gap, VA; 2 daughters, Pam Tardy of Kingsport, TN, Donna and Tim Allen of Norton, VA; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Robert and Faye Fultz of Norton, VA; a sister, Della Hall of Norton, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Wednesday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 noon Thursday at the Spirit and Truth Worship Center with Rev. Kenneth Sturgill officiating. Entombment will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.


TIMOTHY BARNETT

COEBURN, VA - Timothy Wayne Barnett, Sr. 56, went home to be with Jesus Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN. Born to the late Fred Barnett and Della F. Shepherd, he was also preceded in death by his wife Gail Hatfield.  Tim was a retired butcher, and was of the Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by his sons, Timothy Wayne Barnett, Jr., London, KY, Matthew Jason Barnett, Pocahontas, VA, his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Susan Barnett of Monroeville, OH: brother Terry Barnett of Lexington, OH, brother Rick Barnett of Delaware, and sister Charlotte B. McConnell, Wise, VA; and special and close friend, Bobby Tiller of Wise, VA. 

Services celebrating Tim’s life will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Lighthouse Church in Wise, VA.  Fellowship will begin at 6:00 P.M. with a service to follow at 7:00 P.M.
