NORTON, VA – Christina Marie
Sexton, 43, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012 at Holston
Valley Hospital, Kingsport, TN. She was a member of the Tacoma Holiness
Christian Church of God and was loving member of the community. Christina was a
former RN at Norton Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by a
grandmother, Roxie Elizabeth Smith; grandfathers, Randolph Jones and Vincent
Richard and Mary Evie Sowers.
She is survived by her husband,
Gordon Sexton of Norton, VA; a son, Scott and Amanda Sexton of Norton, VA and
their expectant son, Kaleb Isiah Sexton; 2 daughters, Stephanie Sexton and Mary
Elizabeth Sexton both of Norton, VA; father, Ron and Bette Sowers of Anderson,
SC; mother, Patricia and John Weitzel of Mechanicsville, VA; a brother, Patrick
and Missy Sowers of Woodbridge, VA; 3 sisters, Sandi and Gary Worthman of
Bowie, MD, Jacki and Bill Hogue of Manassas, VA, Kara Kaminky of Woodbridge,
VA; grandfather, Harold and Katherine Smith of Tacoma, VA; aunt and uncle, Mike
and Deb Hall of Slainsville, W.VA; several nieces and nephews.

NORTON, VA – Beulah E. Winebarger
Mays, 92, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at her
residence surrounded by her family. She was a member of the Ramsey Freewill
Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen B. Mays; a son,
W.H. Mays; a granddaughter, Linda Donnelly; a grandson, Herbert Stallard, Jr.;
5 brothers, Arnold Winebarger, Eugene Winebarger, Lacy Winebarger, Junior
Winebarger, Conley Winebarger; 4 sisters, Hazel Buchanan, Libby Porter, Alta
Miller and Yvonne Johnson.
She is survived by 5 sons, Paul
and Linda Mays of Bristol, VA, Allen and Linda Mays of Norton, VA, Avery and
Sue Ann Mays of Phoenix, AZ, William Mays of Norton, VA, Alvin and Michaele Mays of Kelso,
WA; 4 daughters, Dolores Fee of Defiance, OH, Joann and Jeff Warnimont of New Braunfels,
TX, Savannah and Jim Runkle of Fort Wayne, IN, Vivian and Mike Thacker of
Norton, VA; a daughter-in-law, Pat Mays of Norton, VA; 35 grandchildren; 43
great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Carol and Bill
Cole of St. Paul, VA, Bernice Evans of St. Paul, VA; several nieces and nephews
and a host of church family and friends.

CLYDA NAGY
NORTON, VA – Clyda Nagy, 91, died
Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. She was a
daughter of the late Alfred and Allie Hobbs Robbins. In addition to her parents
she was preceded in death by her husband, William Steve Nagy, 3 brothers, 4
sisters and an infant son. She was a former nurse at Norton General Hospital
and later worked at Woolworth Dept. store in Norton. She was a member of the
Guest River Pentecostal Church.
She is survived by a son, Wayne
and Nancy Brickey of Norton, VA; 2 daughters, Diana and George Hill of
Seabrook, MD, Mary and Jim Hickman of Norton; 3 grandchildren, Billy Brickey,
Martin and Suzie Brickey and Anthony Brickey, all of Norton, VA; several
beloved nieces and nephews; special friends, Judy Ramey, Sonia Collins and
Jennifer.

BILLY JOE ROBERTS
WISE, VA – Billy Joe Roberts, 33,
passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 14, 2012 at the home of his fiancé surrounded
by his family after a brief battle with cancer. He was a 1998 graduate of John
I. Burton High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and
Shirley Roberts.
He is survived by his daughter,
Shelby Faye Roberts of Wise, VA; his fiancé, Mary Hamilton and her children,
Christian, Jordan and Isabella Kunce all of Wise, VA; his sister and
brother-in-law, Karen and Eddie Baker of Norton, VA; his brother, Jack Roberts
of Norton, VA; two nephews, Clayton Baker and Joseph Roberts both of Norton,
VA; a niece, Jessica Roberts of Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandmother, Heda Collins
of Norton, VA and special friends, Derick Lee and Hope Hall and many more
friends.

ANNA RUTH MARCUM
NORTON, VA – Anna Ruth “Rusty”
Marcum, 85, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at The Laurels Assisted Living Center.
She retired from C&P Telephone as a repair service coordinator. She
attended the Norton Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Leonard Marcum, the former Commissioner of Revenue for the City of
Norton.
She is survived by her daughters,
Carol Schoolcraft of Norton, VA, Kay Velarde and her husband Barry of
Blacksburg, VA; a brother, Earl W. Owens and his wife, Jonnie of Beckley, W.VA;
granddaughter, Christy Sturgill and her husband Lester of Norton, VA; grandson,
Daniel Jordan and his wife Tina of Durham, NC; great grandsons, Darian Lowery
and Tyler Jordan; and a special friend, Jean Griffith.

GLENN H. THACKER
NORTON, VA - Glenn Harold Thacker, 84, died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Wise, Virginia. He was one of eleven children born to Henry P. and Nancy Fields Thacker. Four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Glenn served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force, and for 27 years operated the Yellow Top Cab Company in Norton.
Surviving are a brother, Roy Lee Thacker, and a sister, Molly Thacker Clisso, both of Norton, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Tuesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be at 7 o’clock in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Allen Culbertson officiating. Family and friends will gather at 12:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, where they will then travel by procession to the White Oak Gap Cemetery on Thacker’s Branch for burial. COL. GARY RAY ADDISON
NORTON, VA - Col. Gary Ray Addison, U.S. Army (Ret.), 61, of Goose Creek, SC, passed away August 9, 2012, following an extended illness.
Born in Norton, Virginia, he was a son of the late Guy and Frances Collins Addison. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from East Tennessee State University and his Master’s Degree from Florida Institute of Technology. Upon graduation from ETSU, he received his commission in the United States Army, where he retired after thirty years as a Colonel, serving during Desert Storm and the Bosnian Conflict. Mr. Addison moved to Goose Creek to work as a contractor for Dynacorp at the Charleston Naval Weapon Station. He enjoyed playing golf, watching the Atlanta Braves and coached basketball for the Goose Creek Recreation.
He is survived by his wife of twenty three years, Dominique Fontaine Addison; four sons, Steve Addison, Big Stone Gap, VA, Jonathan Addison, Christopher Addison and Carlton Addison, all of Goose Creek; his daughter, Anna Michele White, Bluefield, WV; his brother, Ronnie Addison, Lancaster, Kentucky and sister, Annette Clough, Newport News, Virginia; and his grandchildren: Dalton and Connor White, and Emma Addison, and her sister, Ava who is expected in September.
Following services Tuesday in Charleston, SC, Gary will be returned to Norton, Virginia, where his family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, August 16, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kirt Dale, minister from the First Church of God of Norton officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the Virginia National Guard Honors Team and veterans service organizations from the Wise County area. CHARLES A. ABSHER, JR.
BIG STONE GAP, VA - Charles Allen (Bud) Absher, Jr. went to
be with his Lord and Savior on August 2, 2012, after a long illness. He
died at his home in Powell Valley with his loving family by his side.
Charles was born on May 30, 1921 in Norton, VA and lived his
entire life in Wise County. Mr. Absher was a Virginia Tech graduate and
decorated World War II veteran, a science teacher for many years at John I.
Burton High School, and a lifelong farmer and cattleman.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles A. Absher,
Sr. and mother Ruby Collier Absher
Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Chollie Beverly
Absher, two sons, Charles A. Absher III and his wife Teresa of Salisbury, MD
and Gregory Lee Absher and his wife Patti of Powell Valley, one daughter Beth
Fawbush and her husband David of Powell Valley, five grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren, a brother Creed C Absher of Norton, VA and sister Ella
Baron Cox of Johnson City, TN, also a niece and nephew.
At Mr. Absher's request there will be no public services,
only a private family service with cremation. The family would like to thank
Norton Community Home Heath, Hospice and Palliative Care of VA and especially
the loving caregivers who attended during his illness.
