COEBURN, VA - Donnie “Chicken”
Dotson, 71, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Mountain View Regional Medical
Center. He enjoyed drag racing with his buddy Gary and also caring for his game
chickens. He was a truck driver and was last employed at Quality Garbage in
Norton.
He is survived by his wife, Joan
Dotson of Coeburn, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Donnie Paul and Debbie Dotson
of Clintwood, VA; a grandson, Donnie Paul Dotson, II; his step children, Carlin
Lee Burch of Blue Ridge, VA, Tammy Rene'e
Burch of Salem, VA, David Wayne Burch of Roanoke, VA, Chuck Burch of Colorado
and Debbie Moore of Richmond, VA; a brother, Timothy Dotson of Coeburn, VA; an
aunt, Crystal Meade of Clintwood, VA; and his uncles, Denver Dotson and Curtis
Dotson of Indiana; several nieces and nephews.

services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Buchanan officiating.
Graveside committal services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday at the White Oak
Gap Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at
1:30 PM Sunday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
WILLIE McCURDY
NORTON, VA - Willie Lewis “Bob
Tail” McCurdy, Sr., 70, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Johnson City Medical
Center. He was a former employee of Austin Powder Co. and Daniels Plumbing and
Heating. He was a Virginia Tech Hokies and San Francisco 49ers fan. He loved
listening to music. He was a member of the Chestnut Grove Missionary Church. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Dessie B. and Zola Mae Lewis McCurdy;
brothers, Sherman McCurdy and Phillip McCurdy; sisters, Janet McCurdy and Betty
McCurdy.
He is survived by sons, Willie
Lewis McCurdy, Jr., Thomas and Delena McCurdy and Michael and Carla McCurdy all
of Norton, VA; daughter, Ann McCurdy of Norton, VA; brother, Dessie B. McCurdy,
Jr. of Detroit, MI; fiancé, Vickie Sensabaugh of Norton, VA; step children,
Curt Forney, Lawanna Cain and Jaymil Sensabaugh all of Norton, VA, Fred
Sensabaugh of Columbus, OH; 9 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 5 great
grandchildren; aunts, Fannie Mae McCurdy and Inez Simpson, both of Columbus,

DELBERT LEE BOGGS, JR.
WISE, VA - Delbert Lee Boggs, Jr. of Wise, VA entered peacefully into his eternal home on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the Mountain View Regional Medical Center, in Norton, VA. D. L. was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert Lee Boggs, Sr. & Sarah Elizabeth Hollyfield of Pound, VA, a brother, Everette Jennings Boggs, Grand Rapids, MI, & a son, Jeffrey Carl Boggs. He was raised on Indian Creek, near Wise, by two incredibly loving parents who he adored immensely. D.L. served in the United States Army from 1943-1945. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1951 with a degree in Mining Engineering. Shortly thereafter he accepted his first professional position with United States Gypsum Company near Saltville, VA where he was employed from 1951-1957. He and his family then relocated to Jasper, AL, where he became a foreman for Alabama Power Company from 1958 until 1961 when he became a salesman for Long Airdox Company based out of West Virginia from 1961 until 1969, during which time he relocated back to Wise County to live in Wise, where he lived the remainder of his life. D.L. joined Charlie Harris in 1969 to become Vice President of Appalachian Construction Company where he worked until 1979. After that time D.L. worked as a Civil Engineering consultant with several local firms.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Patsy Still Boggs, a son, Delbert Lee Boggs, III & wife Diane, of Brentwood, TN, Amy Laura Puckett & husband Randy, with daughters Katherine Emily Barker & Margaret Ann Barker, of Knoxville, TN & Kimberley S. Boggs, MD of Knoxville, TN.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00PM on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Wise Baptist Church in Wise, VA. Funeral services will follow there at 2:00 PM. RAMONA BROOKS DYE
NORTON, VA - Ramona Brooks Dye, 83, died Friday, July 20, 2012. Born to Grover Cleveland Brooks, Sr. and Hazel Elizabeth (Harris) Brooks, she was a lifelong resident of Norton. She was the widow of Robert Roy Dye, and was also preceded in death by an infant child, Glenn Carrol Hamilton, her brothers: Red, Bob, and Charlie Brooks; and a sister, Nancyanne Brooks Hamm. Ramona was a former sales associate for then Parks-Belk in Norton, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norton, and had been a member of the Norton Community Hospital Auxiliary for many years.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Charlene B. Bates, Danny Brooks, Gene Brooks, Cindy Franklin, Victoria Allen, Billy Hamm, and Toni Cabrerra; and her step-sons: Tim and Terry Dye.

FRED HUBBARD
NORTON, VA - Fred Hubbard, 96,
died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. Born in Lee County, Virginia, he was a son of
the late Kaner and Ollie (Fields) Hubbard, and was of the Pentecostal faith. Mr. Hubbard retired from both the City of
Richmond, Virginia and the City of Norton. His wife, Carrie Wells Hubbard,
preceded him in death in 1997, as well as his brothers and sisters: Essie Hubbard, Clyde Hubbard, Leonard Hubbard,
Bessie Sturgill, and Maudella Mefford.
Surviving are his daughter, Judy Davis,
and her husband A.D., his son, Buddy Hubbard, and his wife, Joyce; his
grandchildren (and spouses), Danny (Monica) Davis, Tammy (Jeff) Carty, Shane
(Michele) Hubbard, and Marty Hubbard; his step grandchildren: Mike Martin,
Wayne Martin, and Billy Martin; his great grandchildren: Emily Clark, Sarina
Collins, Hunter Hubbard, Derick Davis, Isabella Davis, Kendra Leonard, and Cody
Leonard; and his great-great grandchildren:
Taylor Gardner, Madison Gardner, and Gavin Collins.

DANIEL RAMEY
NORTON, VA - Daniel Ramey, age
86, died Friday, July 13, 2012 in Mountain View Regional Medical Center. A son
of the late Ellis Joshua and Alice (Hayes) Ramey, he was the last of his
generation. He attended the Trinity Life Center Church in Coeburn where was a
member of “Gary’s Sunday School Class”, and Senior Activity Group and he was a
former choir member. He was a retired coal
miner and member of UMWA Dixiana Local 8017.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters and
brothers, Bessie Orender, Maudie Short, Evie Greene, Emma Evans, Lakie Baker,
Clarence Ramey, Jim Ramey and Moscoe Ramey.
He is survived by his wife of 66
years, Marie Johnston Ramey; daughter, Naomi Ramey Grubb and husband Steve,
Roanoke, VA; sons, Michael Ramey and wife Agnes, Radford, VA, Buford Ramey and
wife Connie of Epworth, GA; grandchildren, Danny Brooks, Melody Forbes, Michael
Ramey, Jr., Jaime Brooks and Debbie Sorrells; several great grandchildren and
great, great grandchildren; a host of special nieces, nephews and friends.

NORTON, VA – James Horace
Watlington, Jr., 74, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Johnson City Medical
Center. James Horace Watlington, Jr. was
born in Norton, VA on October 5, 1937 to the late James Horace Watlington and
Katherine Bandy Watlington. He was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church
and later became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a
deacon until he became ill. He retired from Westmoreland Coal Company after more
than twenty years of service. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby
Watlington and Melvin Watlington, Sr., two sons, Robert Clifton Watlington and
Philip Wayne Etter.
He is survived by his loving wife
of 26 years, Ethel Christine Freeman Watlington; two daughters, Zena Rena
Lewis, Vera Dixon-Horton (Tony); four sons, James Curtis Watlington, William
Watlington (Carrie), Wallace Watlington, and Lamont Watlington; three step
sons, Julian Davis, Jerome (Jennifer) Davis, and James Bradley; two brothers,
Preston (Ann) Watlington; Frank (Paula) Dalton, two sisters, Cherlaine Woods
and Carolyn Hubbard; three sister-in-laws, Diane Watlington, Lillian
Watlington, and Joyce Watlington; a brother-in-law, Joseph Freeman, Jr.; one

ROSE FISCHER
NORTON, VA – Rose Elseg Fischer,
92, died Monday, July 9, 2012 at The Laurels Retirement and Assisted Living
Home. She was born in 1919 in Catlettsburg, Kentucky to the late Mary and
Joseph Elseg. Frank S. Fischer, her husband of 68 years; Pamela Fischer, her
granddaughter; two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Norton
Presbyterian Church and the Norton Lioness Club. She worked at the telephone
company and was a teacher’s aide for a short time. She was an outstanding
seamstress and friends and family enjoyed her cookie making talent.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, James and Sue Fischer of Kingsport, TN; daughters and
sons-in-law, Pauline and Bob Wells of Stephen City, VA and Ann and Allan
Williams of Midlothian, VA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, David
and Misty Fischer, Marcie and Ben Becker, Steven and Brooke Fischer, Chris and
Danielle Wells, Ken and Meredith Wells, Zachary Williams as well as 11 great
grandchildren.

JOHN RAYMOND LIVINGSTON, SR.
NORTON, VA - John Raymond Livingston, Sr., 60, was born June 24, 1952 in Norton, VA, to the late Denver and Estella Livingston. He was called home Tuesday, July 3, 2012 after battling a long illness. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Geneva Teasley and Ollie Mae Livingston, and a brother, William Livingston.
During his life he was a longtime member of the Chestnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, and was a member of the church choir. For the past few years he also attended Trinity Life Center Church. He worked as a repairman for M&S Construction Company for nine years and also at Paramont Coal Company for 21 years as a repairman and certified electrician. He retired in 2002.
He leaves to mourn his loving and faithful wife of 40 years, Mary E. Livingston. Out of their union are three children: Belinda Livingston, John (Manuela) Livingston, Jr., and Keyla Livingston; four grandchildren: Ervin, Yakemia, Akyssa, and A’nyah; six brothers: Nathaniel Livingston, Lynn (Grace) Livingston, Mike (Sharon) Livingston, Gail (Angie) Livingston, Jeffrey (Kathy) Livingston, Albert (Saundra) Livingston; five sisters: Bernice James, Rose (John) Williams, Bertha McNeil, Eileen (Robbie) Bowser. Judy (Rusty) Rice, a precious and devoted brother-in-law, Jessee James, and a host of nieces nephews, relatives and friends.
