MARJORIE ADAMS

NORTON, VA – Marjorie Adams, age 81, died at her residence Tuesday, May 31, 2011.  She was a member of Freedom of Worship and lifelong resident of the Norton area, born a daughter of the late Newt and Della (Brummitt) McGown. Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  In addition to parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Adams, two brothers and three sisters. 

She is survived by sons, Don Adams, Wise, VA, and Dwane Adams of Norton; daughters, Dianna Sturgill, Shallotte, NC, Darlene Adams and Doris McConnell, Knoxville, TN; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Christine Stanley, Fairfax, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00PM Thursday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with the Rev. Allen Culbertson officiating.  Interment will be Friday at 11:00AM in Huff-Brummitt Cemetery.  Family and friends will meet at 10:45 at the cemetery.

 


SHIRLEY MARIE FRITZ

BIG STONE GAP, VA - Shirley Marie Fritz, 67, went to be with the LORD Saturday, May 28, 2011, in Holston Valley Medical Center, following a short illness.

She was born September 15, 1943 in Pound, VA to the late Earl and Nellie (Mullins) Maggard.  Of the Baptist faith, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister to her family. Preceding her in death was a brother, Leroy Maggard.

Surviving are her husband of 36 ½ years, Jerry A. Fritz, sons and their wives:  Donnie W. and Donna Meade, Powell, TN, and Scott and Sabra  Meade, Big Stone Gap; and a daughter and her husband, Farrah L. and Brady Bunch, Big Stone Gap, six grandchildren: Matthew Meade, Seth and Carlie Meade, Brandon Bradley, and Braxton Bunch;  two brothers, four sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for services for Shirley at 3 PM Tuesday, May 31, at the Powell Valley Mausoleum Chapel. The Rev. Tony Nunley will officiate.  Entombment in the mausoleum will immediately follow.  Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home of Norton is serving the Fritz family.


JAMES C. LANE

NORTON, VA - James C. Lane, 65, known by all his road buddies as “Trucker”, went home to be with Jesus Wednesday, May 25, 2011, following a lengthy illness.  Waiting on him with open arms were his grandson, Jake Aquino, his mother, Virginia Carter Lane, a sister, Wilma Lane, his maternal grandparents, Pat and Ellen Carter, and his paternal grandparents, Hobart and Kate Lane.

James was of the Baptist faith, and attended Pendleton’s Freewill Baptist Church in Rye Cove, VA.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Blanton Lane of Norton, a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Jose Aquino, Kingsport, TN, a step daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Shane Morgan, Big Stone Gap, VA, a step son, Keith Senopole, Jonesville, VA, his father, Orbin Lane, Gate City, VA., a brother, Larry Lane and his wife, Teresa, Fort Blackmore, his sisters: Barbara McMurray and her husband, Gorman, Rogersville, TN, Wanda Cowden and husband, Jerry, and Lynn Wolfe and her husband, Scott, all of Fort Blackmore.   His six grandchildren are:  Nathan Aquino, Joseph Aquino, Gabriel Aquino, Sarah Morgan, Ali Morgan, and Sophia Morgan.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Friday, May 27th at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Terry Rhoton and Rev. Kevin Sanders officiating.  Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton.  Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 


BRUCE THACKER

COEBURN, VA - James Bruce “Curly” Thacker, 61, went to be with his LORD Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.  Born in Blackwood, Virginia, he was a son of the late Luther and Fannie Morene (Wells) Thacker.  Bruce was retired from Wise Furniture Company in Norton and was a lifelong member of the Norton Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are his wife, Beth M. (Bohnert) Thacker, his sisters:  Marie Adams, Wanda Malone, Elizabeth Roe, Ruth Hale, and Grace Wells; and his brothers:  William Thacker and David Thacker; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Saturday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Sunday at the Norton Pentecostal Church, with the Reverend Roger Sloce officiating.  Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton.

 


DEBORAH ELLIOTT

WEBER CITY, VA – Debra Diane Elliott, Age 55, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday May 1, 2011 in Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. A native of Norton, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Sturgill and Naomi Ruth (Bailey) Sturgill Ross.  Debra was an amazing lady with so much devotion and love as a wife, a mother, a friend and was a hard worker.   She lived a full blessed life; enjoying the beach, gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends. 

She is survived by her husband Greg Elliott; daughter, Rebecca Diane Elliott; uncle, Virgil Leo Bailey, many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 7th. from 2 P.M. until time of “A celebration of Debra’s Life” at 3 P.M. at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel in Norton with Mr. Jimmy Hartley officiating.
