PALMER WILLIAM KEITH

NORTON, VA – Palmer William “Billy” Keith, 60, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 at his residence in Chesterfield, VA. He is the son of the late Willie and Juanita Keith of Norton. He is of the Baptist faith and has been employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation for over 30 years.

He is survived by his sister, Patsy Fix of Norton, sister and brother-in-law, Katrina and Jonathan Balthis of Wise; nephew, Keith Allen (Fix) O’Keefe and his wife Meredith, great niece Kiley Elizabeth O’Keefe and great nephew Braden Robert O’Keefe, all of Burlington, MA; and nephew Ryan Keith Gardner of Norton.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton with Rev. Roger Jenkins officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery. Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home of Norton is in charge of arrangements.

 


FANNIE ALICE HUFF

NORTON, VA – Fannie Alice Huff. 82, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 at Norton Community Hospital. She was the widow of Otis Huff. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sparks; 5 sisters, Beulah Mae Jackson, Ada Ruth Thomas, Sarah Jane Sparks, Mary Ellen Houser and Georgia Loretta Osborne.

She is survived by 2 sisters, Helen P. Boris, Bristol, TN, Texa Anna Broyles, Eaton, OH; a brother, Glenn Allen Sparks, Olea, PA.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.

 


REBECCA SPURLOCK

NORTON, VA – Charlotte Rebecca “Becky” Spurlock, 70, passed away at her residence Sunday morning, Nov. 27, 2011. She was of the Baptist faith.

Not only was she a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she was a great friend to each and everyone who became a part of her life, especially her family. She gave all of herself and never asked for anything in return. You will be missed and we love you with all our heart, forever and a day.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Spurlock; mother Lillian Elizabeth Rueffer; and father, Harry Welsh and son-in-law, Phillip Hall;.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie “Sparky” Spurlock, of the home and Pam Hall of Wise, VA; one son, Ronnie Spurlock of Norton, VA; two grandsons, Chris Spurlock of Richmond, VA and Caleb Hall of Wise, VA; one granddaughter, Ashley Spurlock of Wise, VA; one sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Paul Robert of Bethesda, MD; one brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Karen Welsh of Fort Pierce, FL; sisters-in-law, Lucille Legg, Ruth Layne and Mary Cowden as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jack Blanton officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.

 


MARY ELIZABETH SEXTON

Mary Elizabeth Sexton, 44, died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at her home.  She was the widow of David Lee Sexton and was also preceded in death by her father, Sherman W. Smith, Jr.

Mary is survived by her sons, Sherman Sexton, Pocahontas, VA, and James Sexton, Coeburn, VA, and her step children, David Sexton and Cindy Sexton, both of Big Stone Gap, VA; her mother, Betty S. Mullins, Coeburn, a brother, Brandon Mullins, Waverly, VA, and her very special friend and companion, Dennis Atkins.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel.  Graveside services and burial will be at 11 AM Monday at Highland Cemetery in Norton.

 


IVO TYLER

NORTON, VA – Ivo Priscilla Tyler, 92, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, VA. She was born in Fairview, VA and graduated from Fairview High School. She later attended the Johnson City Business College. Ivo was a nurses’ aid and worked for Dr. Short at the former Park Avenue Hospital in Norton. She was a volunteer with the Wise County Food Bank and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray Bloomer Tyler and Elizabeth Berry Tyler; 2 sisters, Katie Lee Tyler and June Tyler Watts; a nephew, Paul Shannon Watts, Sr.; brother-in-law, Willard Watts and a sister-in-law, Erma Kate Tyler.

She is survived by a brother, Hubert Ray Tyler, Hillsboro, OH; nieces, Gemelia Tyler, Hillsboro, Oh, Christine Tyler, Cincinnati, OH, Rosalind Hunt, Marietta, GA; great nieces, Andrea Counts, Bristol, VA, Sara Necessary, Wise, VA; great nephews, Michael Hunt, Marietta, GA, Paul Shannon Watts, Wise, VA; great-great niece, Tonya Counts King, Bristol, VA; great-great nephews, Nicholas Jackson, Wise, VA, Connor Barnes, Marietta, GA.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Mr. Steve Maddox officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted 10:00 AM Sunday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM Sunday to travel in procession to the cemetery.

 


PATSY BOOHER JESSEE

NORTON, VA - Patsy Booher Jessee, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Johnson City Medical Center.  Pat was the daughter of the late Gladys “Jack” Booher and Clyde Booher of Norton, VA.  She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Moon of Lorton, VA, and her grandson, Scott Moon.  She is also survived by her “adopted” daughters:  Dinah Bartee, Robyn Bramow, Bonnie Cisler, and Betsy Johnson.

Pat was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.  She was a member of the Texas Club, and was a retired Fairfax County, Virginia Public Schools teacher.

Pat will be remembered for her generosity, intelligence, love of animals, strong spirit and elegant style.

JAMES H. PRICE, SR.

NORTON, VA – James H. Price, Sr., 87, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 in Mountain View Regional Medical Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran having fought in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. He was a 60 year member of Suthers Lodge 259 in Norton. He retired from N&W Railroad in 1985 after 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Jane Price, in 2007.

he is survived by his sons, James Price, Jr. and Richard Price, both of Norton, VA; daughters, Jane Mayes, Wise, VA, Amy Beacham and her husband, Gordon, San Diego, CA; Grandchildren, James Clay Price, Jason Matthew Price, Lori Elizabeth Price, Steven Price, Cameron Price, Mark Price and Emily Jane Beacham; a great granddaughter, Hadlea Price.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 PM Wednesday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 7:30 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clifford Bevins officiating. Interment with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the National Guard Funeral Honors Team and local veterans groups will be 1:00 PM Thursday in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.  Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 12:30 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or to the American Cancer Society. MICHAEL BROOKS

NORTON, VA – Michael Horner Brooks, 66, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport, TN. He attended Clinch Valley College and was a 1968 graduate of Virginia Tech. He served in the U.S. Navy as a psychotherapist at Bethesda Naval hospital helping Vietnam Veterans. He was President of Brooks Electric Motor Corp. He was former owner of an insurance agency and was currently employed by Logisticare Solutions in Norton as a supervisor.

He was currently serving as President of the Norton Lions Club. He served as District Governor 1988-1989 and previously served his club as president in 1981-1982. Mike was the Norton Lion of the Year 1988-1989. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow and has served his club and the District in many capacities for more than 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward and Sarah Brooks and a niece, Jenny Brooks Estep.

Surviving are a sister, Cindy Brooks Ounsi and her husband, Aziz, Glenn Allen, VA; 2 brothers, Danny Lee Brooks, Norton, VA and Eugene Cleveland Brooks, Church Hill, TN; special cousins, Charlene and Don Bates, Norton, VA; special friends, Eula and Mitch Austin and their children, Nicholas and Rachel, Norton, VA; 2 aunts, Ramona Brooks Dye, Norton, VA, Betty Jean Hines, Jonesville, VA; nephews, Chris Brooks, Patrick Franklin, Justin Franklin and Shannon Brooks.

The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 PM Friday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. A Lions service will be conducted at 8:00 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Ellington officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the National Guard Funeral Honors Team and local veterans groups. Burial will follow at the Laurel Grove Cemetery.
