LARRY TRINKLE

NORTON, VA - Larry Alan Trinkle, 72, of the Dunbar, Virginia community, died Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Norton Community Hospital.  Born to the late Ward Trinkle and Lettie Jane (Moore) Trinkle, he was a lifelong resident of Wise County.  Larry was retired from Westmoreland Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA.

He was preceded in death by two daughters:  Melissa Mullins and Rebekah Dukes, and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Trinkle and a son-in-law Tim Dukes.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Ellen “Sue” Trinkle, a son, Brian Trinkle, a daughter, Lori (Ben) Samuels, a stepson Tommy Wayne Bloomer and a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Roger) Salyers. His grandchildren are:  Faith and Natasha Cox, Carl (Hannah) Samuels and Nate Samuels, Tyler (Kayla) Mullins, and Brianna Mullins. His great grandchildren are:  Kera Lynn Mullins and Julian Sanchez, and several nieces and nephews.

 The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:30 AM Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Tony Nunley officiating.  Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.


STEVE STAPLETON

WISE, VA – Wright “Steve” Stapleton, 61, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Wise, Va. He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Stapleton; his mother, Georgia Stapleton; and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by a sister, Ada Mullins of Wise, Va.; two brothers, Wendell Stapleton of Union City, Ind. and Jurrel Stapleton and his wife Sue of Seymore, Tn.

Honoring Steve’s wishes, there will be a private family interment at a later date at Laurel Grove Cemetery.


GRACE COMER

NORTON, VA – Grace Jane Comer, 102, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at her home. Grace was born in Norton Va. to the late G.C. and Lizzy Livesay Vandeventer. She was a graduate of the Knoxville Business College. She later resided in Kingsport, Tn. and worked at Tennessee Eastman Company as a secretary. She was a former member of the Mayfair Methodist Church in Kingsport. Grace returned to Norton in 2001 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Comer; a brother, Millard Vandeventer; and a sister, Irene Vandeventer Holt.

She is survived by her nephew, Danny Holt and his wife Teresa of Norton, Va.; a great niece, Rebecca Holt of Kingsport, Tn.; a niece, Linda Reed of Nashville, Tn.; a nephew, John Vandeventer and his wife Vera of Bristol, Va.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Collie, Rev. Benny Boles and Rev. Bobby Dingus officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to thank Sandra Hensley, Hospice and Palliative Care of Virginia and extended family and friends for their care and attention given to Grace.

CHARLIE THACKER

NORTON, VA – Charlie Albert Thacker, 86, left this walk of life, to walk on the streets of gold, on June 16, 2016 at Mountain View Regional Hospital. He loved his family and was an avid musician and singer. He played and sang in the Good News Quartet, Bluegrass Uprising, and many other bluegrass and gospel bands. He also played and sang many years at the Country Cabin in Norton, VA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty J. Thacker, Parents Ellard and Louemma Thacker, a son-in-law Ronnie Cowden, four brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by one son Mike and Vivian Thacker, one daughter Billie Jean Cowden, one grandson Derrick and Jessica Thacker, three granddaughters Michele and Chris Sturgill, Mandi Thacker, and Kayla and Ben Harvey, four great grandsons Matthew Sturgill, Tyler Cowden, Ethan Harvey and Jude Polly, four great granddaughters Samantha Sturgill, Morgan Polly, Lilly Thacker, and Addy Thacker. A special friend James Baker, and a host of other friends and relatives.

The family would like to send out a very special thank you to all the nurses and staff at the long term care unit at Mountain View Regional Hospital in Norton, Va.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton VA. Funeral Service will be conducted 2 pm Sunday, June 19, 2016, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Gary Hill officiating. Burial follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton, Va.

CARL ABSHER

NORTON, VA – Carl Absher, 70, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at his home.  Carl was retired from the Eastman Chemical Company, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Jones Absher, his parents, Barney Absher, Sr. and Hazel Osborne Absher, and his brothers: Roy, Randall, Freddie, and Donnie Absher.

He is survived by his children: Tony Absher, Chris (Sharon) Absher, both of Norton, VA, and Tonia (Bobby) Vikara, Duffield, VA; his brothers and sisters (and their spouses): Bill (Margaret) Absher, Bristol, VA, Barney “Denny” Absher, Jr.,Kingsport, TN, Steve (Janice) Absher, Gate City, VA, Alfred (Sue) Absher, Kingsport, TN, Ronnie (Denise) Absher, Duffield, VA, Jeff (Jo) Absher, Norton, Mable Absher, Joy Fields, and Kathy Absher, all of Norton, and a special aunt, Louise Howard of Norton.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel.  Burial with military honors will be at 10 am Saturday at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton.  Family and friends will gather by 9:30 am Saturday at the funeral home, where they then will travel in procession to the cemetery.


JOHNNY LEON CULBERTSON

NORTON, VA – Johnny Leon Culbertson, 68, died Tuesday, June14, 2016, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton, VA. He was preceded in death by father James Culbertson and mother Rosa Bentley Culbertson. Two sisters Nellie Wyatt, and Ruth Sturgill. Three brothers Charles Culbertson, James P. Culbertson, and Lowell Culbertson.

He is survived by Two sisters, Della and Atwell Harrison, Lena and Glen Huff. Six brothers, Coy and Blanche Culbertson, Ray and Ann Culbertson, Gerald and Virginia Culbertson, Don Culbertson, Glen and Margaret Culbertson, Ernest and Shirley Culbertson, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday June 16, 2016 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm Thursday June 16, 2016 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Danny Smith officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted 1 pm Friday at Laurel Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 12:30 pm Friday to travel in procession to the cemetery.


DENVER LEWIS MILES

NORTON, VA – Denver Lewis Miles, 78, died Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Wise, Va. He retired from the City of Norton Water Department with 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Otis Miles, Arnold Miles and David Miles; two sisters, Annie Roberts and Margaret Starnes.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella Tickle Miles of Norton, Va.; a sister, Barbara Adams of Norton, Va.; a brother, Everett Miles of Coeburn, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roger Sloce officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted 2 pm Sunday at Huff-Brummitte Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 1:30 pm Sunday to travel in procession to the cemetery.


PHILLENE DENISE SCOTT

NORTON, VA – Phillene Denise “Tootie” Scott, 57, died Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Indian Path Medical Center. She was the manager at the former Shannon’s Corner Store in Norton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sonny and Norma Armistead; her grandparents, Fitz and Ruth Rose and Beatrice Armistead.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Hershel B. Scott of Norton, Va.; her children, Missy Armistead of Coeburn, Va., Shannon Armistead and his wife Becky of Norton, Va., grandchildren, Brandon Armistead, Makayla Marcum, Matthew Armistead and Brady Armistead; step grandchild, Brooklyn Edwards; and a sister, Becky Dorton and her husband George “Skipper” of Norton, Va.

At Tootie's request her body was cremated.


PATRICIA ANN LEWIS

NORTON, VA – Patricia Ann Lewis, 66, died Friday, June 3, 2016 at Norton Community Hospital.  Born to the late Walter McCray and Mary Louise Hill McCray, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Ann McCray Seymore and three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Lewis, a daughter, Christy Lewis, two sons:  Tony McCray and Preston McCray, her grandchildren:  Paula, Penelope, Kaelynn, Preston, Jr., Deandre, Tenesha, Whitley, and Jedidiah; and four sisters:  Myrtle Rice, Mary Louise McCray, Cynthia Denise Tribbey, and Shelia Diane Bunch.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM – 1 PM Thursday, June 9, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be 1 PM in the funeral home chapel, with burial following in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.


KEITH ADDINGTON

WISE, VA - Thomas Keith Addington, 51, died Thursday, June 2, 2016 at his home on Rocky Fork Road.  Keith was formerly an employee of Ball Construction Company in Norton.  He was preceded in death by his mother Wanda Elaine Short Addington.

He is survived by his father Tom Addington and step-mother, Wanda Wilkins Addington, his brothers:  Kevin and Brandon Addington, a step-sister. April Miller, step-brother, Anthony Wilkins, his sister-in-law, Becky Addington, several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his great friend, Michael Booth.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 1PM Monday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Clyde Addington officiating.  Burial follows in the Hensley-Addington Cemetery on Rocky Fork Road.
