LANA KAY DAVIS

WISE, VA - Lana Kay Davis, 72, of Wise, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016. Lana was a retired medical transcriptionist for 42 years working in the Norton/Wise area. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Elizabeth Moore Brooks and Doc Brooks; her mother Sis Brooks Burker and step father Bob Burker and a grandson Mark Davis Jr.

Survivors include her son Mark Davis of Wise and a daughter Renee Davis of Tennessee; grandchildren Whitney Davis Cross of Wise, Dalton Blevins of Knoxville, A.J. Freers and his wife Celia of Knoxville; great grandchildren Ethan Cross and Emma Cross of Wise; a brother, Bobby Burker of Baltimore, Md. and a host of friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Norton with Pastor Gwen Owens officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.


MARGARET MAE FULLER

NORTON, VA – Margaret Mae Fuller, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton. She was a lifelong resident of Norton and was a member of the Norton United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George S. Fuller, Sr. and Roberta “Bertie” Reed Fuller; seven brothers and sisters, George S. Fuller, Jr., Frances Mary Fuller, Edna Mann Fuller, Kyle Stevenson Fuller, Helen Fuller Mullins, H.W. “Duke” Fuller and Dr. Judge William Fuller; two nieces, Marjorie “Tiny” Fuller Foster and Sue Fuller Brooks; a great niece, Karen Marie Brooks.

She is survived by a niece, Julie Fuller Bolling of Lexington, KY; a great niece, Erin Shea Bolling Hooper of Lexington, KY; two great great nieces, Daphne Marie Shimfessel and Shealeigh Stella Hooper, both of Lexington, KY; a nephew, Steve Mullins of Toronto, Canada; a cousin, Wayne Fuller of Norton, VA; two special friends and caregivers, Darlene Mickles Harber and Berlon Hollis.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 pm Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 pm Tuesday at Highland Cemetery in Norton.


KIMBERLY DAWN DYKES RYAN

NORTON, VA - Kimberly “Kim” Ryan, born February 15, 1973, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Norton Community Hospital.

Kim grew up in the Josephine section of Norton, and was the daughter of Joyce Greear Dykes and Teddy Wayne Dykes.  She attended Josephine Pentecostal Church all her life and attended Appalachia Elementary and High School. She graduated from Norton Christian School in 1989.

Kim loved the outdoors as a child and loved to fish with her father, Teddy, and her grandfather O’dell Greear. She was Pappaw’s  fishing buddy and loved to tell the story where she cast her line out and caught Pappaw in the lip. They laughed and went to the ER and Kim laughed and said she “caught the biggest sucker of them all”.  They laughed about that always.

Kim was preceded in death by her mother and father, Teddy and Joyce Greear Dykes, her maternal grandparents, O’dell and Letha Wampler Greear, her maternal great-grandmother Edna Snodgrass Wampler and her paternal grandparents, Ted and Goldie Dykes, of Norton.

Kim is survived by her husband of 22 years, Christopher Ryan of Norton,  sons Ashton and Aydin Ryan, her mother-in-law, Peggy Ryan of Norton,  paternal aunt,  Sue Dykes Batton of Baltimore, MD.,  and a host of cousins and friends who loved her. 

Visitation will be at Hagy and Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA,  Friday, September 23, 2016 from 1 to 3 PM.  A graveside memorial service date will be announced later.

The family wishes to thank everyone for the support and care during this difficult time and continues to ask that any remembrances, in lieu of flowers, be made by donation to Hagy and Fawbush Funeral Home to assist in funeral expenses.


MICHAEL ROBERTS

NORTON, VA – Michael Shane Roberts, 42, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY following an extended illness. He was a graduate of the former J.J. Kelly High School in Wise, VA, and was formerly an employee of Mullican Lumber prior to his illness.

He is survived by a daughter, Taylor Roberts, a son Chase Roberts, both of Wise, VA; his parents Tony and Gayda Roberts, his brother, Chad Roberts, a very special niece, Kadence Makynlee Roberts, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA.  Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Mike Hunsucker officiating.  Family and friends will gather Saturday between 12:00 noon and 12:30 at the funeral home. They then will travel in procession to Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton for committal services and burial.


PAUL J. BARNETTE, SR.

NORTON, VA – Paul J. Barnette, Sr., 87, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton.  Paul was retired from the maintenance department of the former St. Mary’s Hospital in Norton. He was a son of the late Roy Barnette and Viola Thompson Barnette, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margie Flanary Barnette, a son Paul Barnette, Jr., Atlanta, GA, his brothers, Ronald Barnette and Donald Barnette, and his sisters:  Nesbith Wood, Dorothy Stidham, Irene Caudill, and Inez Bouton and her husband, Jim.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel, with John and Glenda Flanary officiating. Family and friends will gather between 10-10:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home, where they then will leave for the American Legion Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, VA for burial with military honors provided by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard and veteran services organizations.
