BETTY JEAN MULLINS

COEBURN, VA – Betty Jean Mullins, 68, died Friday, Oct 23, 2015 at her home in Coeburn. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sherman Smith, Jr. and her second husband, Sonny James Mullins; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Sexton and a brother, Ed Stevenson.

She is survived by her son, Brandon Mullins of Oakwood, Va.; two grandsons, James Sexton and Sherman Sexton, both of Coeburn, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Smith of Norton, Va. and Shirley Stevenson Pueblo Co; two special friends, Peggy Hammond of Kingsport, Tn. and Eunice Clark of Norton, Va.

A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 pm Friday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home, 956 Park Ave. NW, Norton, VA 24273.


CLEATIS JONES SHORT

NORTON, VA - Cleatis Jones Short, 82, died Friday, October 9, 2015 in Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport, TN.  She was the widow of Millard Short.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, George and Dolly (Mullins) Jones and her infant son and daughter, Dennis Dale and Denise Gail Short.  Cleatis attended Hopkins Chapel Church.

Surviving are her son, Scott Short and her daughter Lisa Short Stallard, both of Norton; her brothers and sisters:  Earl Jones and his wife Shirley, Don Jones, Thelma Jones Gardner, all of Norton, and Lillian Jones Smith, Sandusky, OH.  Her granddaughters are:  Tiffany Stallard Clark and her husband, D.J., Breanna Stallard and Kristen Stallard; her great granddaughter, Kaylee Elizabeth Clark, and her very special friends, Doyle and Janice Wells.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Monday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Worley Smith officiating.  Family and friends will gather Tuesday morning between 10 and10:30 AM at the funeral home, where they then will travel together in procession to the Hill Family Cemetery for burial.


STEVEN R. CRAIN

NORTON, VA – Steven R. Crain, 17, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, Steven D. Crain; his grandparents, Paul and Sandra (Shepherd) Crain, James and Marcella (Thompson) Ayers; and an aunt, Kim Crain.

Surviving are his mother, Marilyn Crain of Norton, Va.; a sister, Amanda Nicole Crain of Norton, Va.; aunts, Linda Hall, Sharon Absher, Cindy Baumgardner and Paula Pratt; uncles, Charles Ayers and his wife Paula and Jeff Crain.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Sunday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 6 pm Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Chad Hall officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Monday at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am Monday to travel in procession to the cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and respiratory therapists of In Home Care and Maxim Nursing Care.


LARRY BRUMMITTE

NORTON, VA - Larry James “Buck” Brummitte,  61, of Nicklesville, VA, formerly of Norton, died Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.  Larry was a retired UMWA coal miner.  He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Brummitte, two sons:  Adam and David Brummitte, and a sister, Mary Jane Brummitte.

Surviving are his wife, Jewell Brummitte, a daughter, Amanda Hill, Wise, VA, sons:  Robert Baldwin, Hot Springs, VA and Chris Brummitte and his wife Jeana, Gate City, VA; his mother, Pauline F. Brummitte, Norton, VA, a sister, Phyllis Lovelace and her husband Tom, Wytheville, VA, a brother, Dennis Brummitte, Dandridge, TN, his grandchildren:  Dakota, William, James, Tyler, Ashley, Jayden, Braxton, and Haley; and his former wife and friend, Alissa Brummitte, Wise, VA.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Saturday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 5 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home, 956 Park Avenue NW, Norton, VA  24273


JACK PETERS, SR.

NORTON, VA – Jack Peters, Sr., 80, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at Nova Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Weber City, Va. Jack retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad with 27 years of service and later worked for A&A Security for several years. Jack loved working in his flower beds. He was a member of the Hilltop Mission Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Emma D. Peters in 2005 and two daughters, Linda and Tammy Peters.

Surviving are his daughter, Darlene Winegar and her husband Sam of Yuma, Va.; three sons, Jack Peters, Jr. and his fiancee', Ruth Carter of Church Hill, Tn., Gene Peters and his wife Barbara of Morganton, NC and Jerry Peters and his wife Sandy of Kingsport, TN; ten grandchilden, Robyn Peters, Jared Peters, April McDavid, Lindsey Peters, Sean Wampler, Genie Hamilton, Caleb Peters, Kaitlin Peters, Misty Barber and Erik Winegar; twelve great grandchildren, Payton, Ashton and Katie Wampler, Evan Blaze and Emily Brickey, Liam McDavid, Lela Winegar, Caleb and Amelia Barber, Kaylee Hopkins and Emmalyn and Cameron Peters; a brother, Jim Peters of Blountville, TN; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted 7 pm Tuesday with Rev. Larry Mullins officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted 11 am Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am Wednesday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
