JASON EDWARD DOWELL

NORTON, VA – Jason Edward Dowell, 46, died Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Jackson Dowell.

He is survived by his father, Larry Wayne Dowell; his brother, Jeremy Dowell; several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm Sunday, September 1, 2019, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Darrell Bolling officiating.


SHIRLEY ANN ROBERTS

NORTON, VA – Shirley Ann Stallard Roberts, 83, died Monday, August 19, 2019 at Norton Community Hospital.  She was a former teacher’s aide at Norton Elementary School and retired from the Office of Surface Mining. Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy R. Roberts; father, Robert Stallard; her mother and step-father, June Pate Jackson and Shelby Jackson.

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Roberts Carico of Norton, Va.; granddaughter, Shelby Carico of Staunton, Va.; several nieces and nephews; special caregivers including Community Home Care and May Smith.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Colley officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Laurel Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am to travel in procession to the cemetery.

GLEN DALE JACKSON

NORTON, VA - Glenn Dale Jackson, 68, died Monday, August 19, 2019 at Holston Manor in Kingsport, TN.  A son of the late William Cleo Jackson and Ruth Dean Jackson, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Faye Ingle Jackson.  Glenn Dale was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired coal truck driver.

He is survived by his son Jamie Glenn Jackson and his wife, Cindy, and his granddaughters, Clarissa Jackson and Jacie Jackson.  Other family include his brother Omer Mack Jackson and his wife, Linda, and his sisters:  Paula Gardner, Carol Sue Dean, and Linda Kaye Wampler.

It was Glenn Dale’s request that his funeral and burial take place with only his family present.


AUSTRALIA GRAVELY

NORTON, VA - Australia Gravely, 80, of Norton VA, passed from death unto eternal life to be with the Lord on August 17, 2019. Australia was born Oct. 8, 1938 to the late George Noaks and Carrah Reynolds Noaks. She was a member at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church where she served as the mother of the church, clerk and was a member of the missionary society, choir and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also secretary of the Association of the Clinch River missionary society. Australia was a former member of the Evangelistic Choralaires and enjoyed traveling around the local area singing the songs of Zion. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Gravely, and her siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 58 years, Frank Gravely; two daughters Sandra (Albert) Livingston and Christina (Terry) Gulley; two sons, Frank Gravely Jr and Maurice Gravely; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. A Homegoing service will be conducted at 1 pm Friday, August 23, 2019, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Leroy Cain officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.

HERBERT MASTERS

NORTON, VA – Herbert Houston “Hub” Masters, 90, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday August 7, 2019, at Holston Valley Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born March 7, 1929. He was married to the love of his life, Eva Brickey Masters, for 61 wonderful years. He was a US Army Veteran and a life member of VFW Post 4301 and DAV Chapter 45. He was a coal truck driver. He was of the Pentecostal faith and attended the Ramsey Church of God. He enjoyed playing guitar. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nade Masters and Flora Redman, one brother, Howard Edward Masters and three infant sisters,

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Rodney Wayne Masters and girlfriend Deborah Rivers of the home, Herbert and Lila Masters of Wise, Va.; three grandchildren, Mia Masters and Bret of Gates City, Tn., Dylan and Casandra Masters of Wise, Va. and Kayla and Jason Rose of Wise, Va.; five great grandchildren, Zachary, Ariel, Joshua, Landon and Payton Hope Clark.

The family will receive friends fro 5-7 pm Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm with Jim Smith and Rev. Rayburn Wells officiating. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted at 11 am Monday, August 12, 2019, at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 am Monday at the funeral home to travel in procession to the cemetery.


JOSEPHINE WILSON

EAST STONE GAP, VA - Josephine Morgan Wilson, 91, died Thursday, August 08, 2019 at her home in East Stone Gap, VA.  Born in Esserville, VA, November 30, 1927, she was a daughter of John and Effie Morgan.  Her husband, William Howard Wilson preceded her in death in 2017.

She is survived by her children:  Lanny H. Wilson, Larry Wayne Wilson, and Tandy Renee Wilson; her seven grandchildren:  Kimberly Sue Crowson, Eric William Wilson, Brian Wayne Wilson, Miranda Renee Kilgore, Derrick Seth Kilgore, Cody Wilson LaMountain, and Cheyenne Autumn Baker;  her eight great grandchildren:  Christopher Crowson, Ciera Wilson, Connor Wilson, Devin Wilson, Alexandra Riley Wilson, Kayley Grace Kilgore, Greyson Seth Kilgore, and Lauren Kilgore.

A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Wilson will be at 2 pm Sunday, August 11 at the Riverside Cemetery in East Stone Gap, VA.  Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home of Norton, VA is serving the Wilson family.

JACKIE LAWSON

NORTON, VA – Jackie Ray “Jack” Lawson, 83, of Mooresburg, Tennessee, formerly of Wise County, Virginia passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at his home on Cherokee Lake.

Jack was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a long time Deputy Sheriff with the Wise County Sheriff’s Department having retired as a Captain of the Department. At the time of his death he was the owner of Lawson Campground in Mooresburg, Tennessee. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Frankie” Lawson; his son, Jackie Lynn Lawson; his parents, Herbert “Hub” and Thelma Osborne; his brother, Bill Lawson; and Sarah “Pat” Lawson, his first wife and the mother of his children.

Survivors include his son, Tim (Mechel) Lawson, his daughter, Brandy Lawson, his step-daughter Brandy Morgan; two step-sons, Ted (Karen) Barnette and Todd (Crystal) Barnette, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and six step-great grandchildren. Other survivors include his daughter-in-law, Vanda Lawson and sister-in-law, Nevada Lawson; four wonderful caregivers, Robin Hatley, Shannon Brummitte, Lisa Pearson and Christine Salvalaggio and his campground family at Lawson Campground.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Stacy Potter officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am to travel in procession to the cemetery.


VERNARD HUGH KISER

NORTON, VA – Vernard Hugh Kiser, 84, passed from death unto eternal life to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Holston Valley Medical Center CICU in Kingsport, Tn. Hugh was born August 31, 1934, in Coeburn, Va. to the late Rev. Willard Taft Kiser and Lena Maude Kennedy Kiser. He was of the Freewill Baptist Faith and a Grand Mason at Suther’s Lodge 259 in Norton, Va. He and his family made their home in Norton, Va. At the age of 20, he began working in the coal mines and later pursued his education at Hiwassee College and East Tennessee State University. He received his degree in radiology working at Wise Appalachian Regional Hospital then later taught students in the field of radiology. He also worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and Norton Community Hospital. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nina Coleman Hylton Kiser; two sisters, Barbara Ann Kiser and Carol Jean Kiser; two brothers, Kenneth Ray Kiser and Johnny Willard Kiser.

Surviving are his children, Linda Ann Osborne and her husband Ernie, Brenda Joyce Stidham, Sandra Carol Kiser, Ronald Hugh Kiser and his wife Mary, all of Norton, Va., Lisa Renee Manners and her husband Darren of Palmyra, Va. and Lana Jane Kiser Ussery and her husband Robert of Rogersville, Tn.; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, August 9, 2019, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Randy Sturgill officiating. Masonic services will precede the funeral service. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, August 10, 2019, in the Greenwood Acres Cemetery in Coeburn where he will be laid to rest beside our mother and his beloved wife.. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:15 am Saturday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
