JOAN MARIE GREEAR

NORTON, VA - Joan Marie Greear, 77, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at her home in Norton.   Born in Powhatan, WV, Joan was a daughter of George and Elsie (Nitz) Mosko, Sr., and was the widow of Joseph Edward “Joe” Greear.  She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Norton.

She is survived by her children (and spouses): Beverly Joan (Stephen) Morgan, Richmond, VA, Mary Anne (Fred) Daniels, Norton, Joseph Gregory (Tena) Greear, Roanoke, VA and John Gerald Greear, Norton; her grandchildren (and spouses):  William Brett, Leslie Marie (Brendan) London, Shannon Greear (Debbie) Salyer, John Caleb Daniels, Charles Zachary Daniels, Helen Victoria Daniels, Hillary Meredith (Daniel) Perkins, Jenny Elise Greear, Joseph Tyler Greear, Michael Andrew (Tara) Greear, and Jonathan Wesley (Bobbi Jo) Greear; her great grandchildren: Madeline Avery Salyer, Logan Roberts, Charles Maddox Daniels, Zachary Cole Greear, Amelia Grace London, and Brandon Timothy Arrington, and a special friend to the family, Destiney Hale, her sisters:  Margaret Johnson, Bluefield, WV and Mary Richardson, Kimbell, WV.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 Thursday, January 1, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  A rosary prayer service will be held at 3 PM in the funeral home chapel.  Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Norton with Father Timothy Drake officiant.  Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.


BRENDA VAY JESSEE MARTIN

NORTON, VA – Brenda Vay Jessee Martin, 73, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 at Indian Path Hospital. Brenda was born December 3, 1941 to the late Stewart and Eliza Jane Jessee. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She worked at Norton Community Hospital in dietary department for 25 years. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Christine Jessee Freeman, Alice Jane Jessee and Teresa Jessee.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Edward (Eddie) Martin of Norton, VA; a daughter, Robin Mae Martin Clifton of Silver Creek, MS; a son, Paul Edward Martin, Jr. of Big Stone Gap, VA; five grandchildren, Brittani Clifton, Corey Clifton, Audumn Martin, Paul Martin, III and Shawn-Michael M. Nations; five sisters, Barbara Davidson of Bulls Gap, TN, Elizabeth Bolling of Wise, VA, Eva Woodard of Charlotte, NC, Kaye Dotten of Coeburn, VA and Pamela Jessee of Kingsport, TN; a brother, Gary Jessee of Norton, VA; several nieces and nephews and a special caregiver, Ellen Baird.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ricky D. Mullins officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton, VA. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Wednesday to travel in procession to the cemetery.


PATSY LEE ADAMS

NORTON, VA – Patsy Lee Adams, 65, died Thursday, December 25, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Patsy was a lifelong resident of Wise County and was a devoted wife, loving mother and sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, Worley Minnix and Rosie Cooke Minnix and a grandson, Jared Hill.

Patsy is survived by her husband, Doug Adams; daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Tony Tunnell of Norton, VA; two sons, P.D. Adams and his wife Carol of Norton, VA, Shane Adams and his girlfriend Ashley Dutton of Norton, VA; three grandchildren, Tia Tunnell, Jacob Collins and McKenzie Adams; a great grandson, Jayden Collins; three sisters, Petrina Amburgey of Norton, VA, Gwen Bentley and her husband Rick of Wise, VA, Lynn Lawson and her husband Gene of Wise, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 11:00 AM Sunday and then travel in procession to White Oak Gap Cemetery for graveside funeral services conducted by Mr. Roy Bright.


ANDREW JACKSON HAMILTON, JR.

NORTON, VA - Andrew Jackson “Jack” Hamilton, Jr., 70, died Friday, December 19, 2014 in Anderson, SC.  A native of Norton, Virginia, he was a son of the late Andrew and Eppie (Bentley) Hamilton.  Jack was retired from the Washington, DC Transit System, and later moved to Willamston, SC in his retirement.  He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters:  Lewis Hamilton, Nora Wells, Mary Wampler, Thelma Jones, Joe Hamilton, Joanne Hamilton, Gertrude Dorton, and Francis Dye. 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Clara Graham Hamilton, a daughter, Andrea Scyphers, his grandchildren: Nicholas, Patrick, Emily, and Hannah Scyphers; a great grandson, Braxton Barbre Scyphers, a sister, Lena Browning, and his brothers:  John Hamilton, Earl Hamilton, and Russell Hamilton.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Cliff Bowman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.

 


ANDREW CHATHAM MOORE, III

NORTON, VA – Andrew Chatham Moore, III passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton, VA.  Andy, born September 6, 1942, was a United States Army veteran and retired from the Mine Safety and Health Administration. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathy Harris Moore, a daughter Elizabeth Sturgill, granddaughter Emily Sturgill, his parents Andrew C. Moore, Jr. and Patricia Moore Ross, and his step father, Ray G. Ross.

Surviving are his children; Patricia M. Ward and husband D.A. of Norton, VA, Chris Moore and wife, Mindy, of Glade Spring, VA, Drew Moore and wife, Audrey, of Pikeville, KY; grandchildren, Nicholas Adkins of Norton, VA, Sarah Adkins of Martinsville, VA, Bailey and Sophie Moore of Glade Spring, VA; four great grandchildren, Eva, Addie, Natalie and Jeffrey Davis of Martinsville, VA; three sisters, Peggy Russell and husband, Kelly, of Jacksboro, TN, Sharon Childress and husband, Dennis, of Vansant, VA, Patty Absher and husband, Greg, of Big Stone Gap, VA; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Carolyn Archer.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 1:30 PM Sunday where they will travel in procession to Laurel Grove Cemetery for a graveside funeral service.


DAVID C. MILES

NORTON, VA - David C. Miles, 82, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at Nova Healthcare in Weber City, VA. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired maintenance foreman with the former VICC. David attended the Appalachia Pentecostal Church and Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlean McCown Miles and his parents, Jim and Maxie Miles.

Surviving are:  his daughter, Denise M. Campbell and her husband David R. Campbell of Church Hill, TN; three grandchildren, Ben, Andrew and Kristin Campbell; two sisters, Margaret Starnes of Wyoming, MI and Barbara Adams of Norton, VA; two brothers, Everett Miles and Lewis Miles of Norton, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Ron Oplinger officiating. Family and friends will gather between 10- 10:30 AM Friday at the funeral home where they then will travel in procession to the Huff-Brummitt Cemetery near Thackers Branch for graveside committal services conducted by the Reverend Roy Smith.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the church of one’s choice.  Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home, 956 Park Ave, Norton, VA is serving the Miles family.


FRANKIE LUCAS

NORTON, VA – Frankie Lynn Lucas, 50, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Grimes Lucas and three brothers, Clyde Boggs, Doug Boggs and Bill Boggs.

He is survived by two sons, Josh and Sarah Lucas of Norton, VA, Jon Lucas and Megan Clark of Coeburn, VA; a granddaughter, Olivia Lee Lucas; two grandsons, Maddox Cole Lucas and Skylar Aaron Lucas; his father, Willard Lucas of Kingsport, TN; two sisters, Letha Lucas of Kingsport, TN, Joyce and Ronnie Gardner of Pound, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM Monday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Graveside funeral services will follow at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton.


INEZ STURGILL

WISE, VA - Inez Kilgore Sturgill, 83, walked through the gates of Heaven to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ from her home on December 3, 2014. She was born to Morgan and Vina Collins Kilgore May 29, 1931 in Wise, Virginia.  Inez was a wonderful, loving, and compassionate mother, grandmother of three generations, sister, and friend.  She attended the Central Freewill Baptist Church, and loved and cared for all her church family.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Sturgill, her daughter, Jenny Lee Sturgill, her parents, a grandson, Marty Sturgill, four brothers and seven sisters.

Surviving are her children (and their spouses): Junius (Pat) Sturgill, Larry (Linda) Sturgill, Danny (Darlene) Sturgill, Ricky Sturgill, Joseph (Becky) Sturgill, Janice (Doyle) Wells, Jean (Kenny) Hash, Joyce (Chris) Bevins, Mazy Reeves, Jackie (Ken) Bryant, and Caroline (Jonah) Bentley; twenty seven grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, a sister, Mildred Moore, a host of nieces and nephews, and her special caregiver, Abby, all of whom she loved dearly.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 1 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Gary Hill officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hensley – Addington Cemetery in Wise.
