NORTON, VA – Larry Joe “Stretch” Taylor,
57, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home in Kingsport, TN. He was preceded in death by his grandparents;
Solly and Zona Collins, and Allie and Dewey Taylor.
Surviving are a daughter, Angela
Rowland, Post Falls, ID, his mother, Evelyn Hoskins, Wise, VA, his father, J.G.
“Bill” Taylor, Dallas, TX, his estranged wife, Penny Taylor of Kingsport, his
sisters, Carol Rice of California, Catherine Matthews and her husband, Roy,
Norton, VA, Jennifer Ferry and her husband, Dino, Wise; his brothers Steve
Taylor, Gray, TN, Raymond Hoskins, Wise, a special nephew Billy Taylor and his
wife, Hollie, Gray, TN and niece, Kristen Tipton and her husband Randy,
Duffield, VA; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends
from the Peacemakers Motorcycle Club in Kingsport
The family will receive friends
from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM in
the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Danny Mullins officiating. Family and friends will gather by 10:30 AM
Friday at the funeral home, where they then will travel in procession to the
Laurel Grove Cemetery for graveside committal services.
BETTIE REED
NORTON, VA - Bettie Chapman Reed, 79, died Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Norton Community Hospital.
She was the widow of James B. Reed, and was retired from the former Bell South Telephone Company in Greensboro, NC. A native of Norton, she was a daughter of Benjamin Franklin Chapman and Ernie Virgie (Adams) Reed. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Charles Chapman, Clyde Chapman, Willie Jean Patricy, Catherine Shell, and Barbara Jackson. Bettie was a member of the Norton Christian Church.
She is survived by her son, Charles Wayne Reed, and several cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Tuesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Wells officiating. Burial will be at 2 PM Wednesday at the Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, NC.
GEORGIA LEE LITTON
NORTON, VA – Georgia Lee Strength
Litton, 89, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died Wednesday, January 8,
2014, following a lengthy illness. Born
in Norton, VA, she had lived in Wise County most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her
husband of 60 years, John Winfield Litton, her parents, William James Strength
and Stella Alice Robinette Strength, a sister, Geraldine Strength Baker and a
brother, Vivian James “Buck” Strength.
A 1942 graduate of Norton High
School, she attended Madison College. She was an employee of the U.S. Bureau of
Mines for several years.
Mrs. Litton was a homemaker and
had been very active in community affairs. She was a member of the Norton
United Methodist Church having served on the administrative board and as a
Sunday school teacher. Her work with the Norton United Methodist Women was very
special to her. She had been a member of Saint Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary since
1984. She will be especially remembered for the love of flower arrangements she
made to be sold in the hospital gift shop.
Surviving are daughters Betsy Lee
Litton Cadwell and her husband Greg of Lexington, KY, Sallie Strength Litton
Graham and her husband Charles of Norton, VA;. She had four grandchildren,
Emily Beth Graham, Bonnie Lee Graham, John Litton Cadwell and William Gregory
Cadwell and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends
from 10:00-11:30 AM Saturday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.
A private committal service and entombment at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens
will follow that afternoon.
