NORTON,
VA – Arlie “Bob” Bates, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, June
29, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving wife, Judy Fletcher Bates and
family. He was the son of the late Arlie H. and Elsie Jane (McGlothlin)
Bates. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Freddie, Jerry and
Jimmy Bates and a sister, Joan Hamilton.
Bob served our country in the
military for over 44 years and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam
wars. He was a member of the Church of
the Good Shepherd in Norton.
Surviving
is his wife, Judy Fletcher Bates: his step daughters, Michele Ferguson and her
husband Doyle, and Sharon Kaye Hickman and her husband Jim, all of Roanoke: his
brothers: Donald “Sonny” Bates of McLeansville, NC, and William “Bill”
Bates and wife Patty of Boston; his sisters: Freda McAmis of Norton,
Shirley Cleary and husband Earnie of Beckley, WV, and Janice Mullins of
Kingsport, 2 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces and
nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Wednesday at Hagy
& Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM
Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gwen Owens officiating. Burial
will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens where military graveside
rites will be conducted.
BETTY HUMPHREYS
WISE, VA - Betty M. Humphreys,
79, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Mountain View
Regional Medical Center in Norton, Virginia.
Born in Lee County, Virginia, she was the daughter of James Madison Mise
and Mae Lucas Mise. Betty was a graduate
of Milligan College and received her Master’s Degree from Radford
University. She joined the faculty of
UVa-Wise (formerly Clinch Valley College) in 1968. She remained an associate professor of
business until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Norton United Methodist Church. In 1955, she married Jim N. Humphreys, who
preceded her in death in 1998.
Surviving is her son, James N. L.
Humphreys of Kingsport, Tennessee. Betty
loved her extended family, which includes cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws
in the Humphreys, Lucas, Miner, and Todd families.
The family will receive friends
from 5 - 7 PM Wednesday followed by funeral services at 7 PM at the Norton
United Methodist Church in Norton, Virginia, with the Reverend Ken Taylor and
Reverend Austin Cook officiating.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 10 AM Thursday at the
Lee Memorial Park and Cemetery in Woodway, Virginia. Family and friends will
gather at the cemetery.

NORTON, VA – Regina Mechelle
Mullins, 43, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Johnson City Medical Center
following a courageous battle with cancer. Regina was a member of the Norton
Lions Club and the First Baptist Church in Norton. Regina was an exceptional
Registered Nurse at Norton Community Hospital for 12 years.
She is survived by a son,
Jonathan Mullins of Norton, VA; a daughter, Nikki Mullins of Norton, VA; her
parents, Wiley and Ann Holbrooks of Norton, VA; a brother, Brian Holbrooks of
Hampton, VA; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; her fiancé, Frank
Sullivan of Coeburn, VA.
The family will receive friends
from 6-7:00 PM Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. A memorial service
will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John
Ellington officiating.
NORTON, VA – Mary Josephine
Crocker Daniels, 92, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in
Big Stone Gap, VA. Jo grew up in
Haynesville, LA and made her home in Norton since 1942.
She is survived by her six
children: Cliff Daniels (Pat) of Mooresville, NC, Victoria Daniels Smith (Bob)
of Kannapolis, NC, Mary Daniels of Norton, Katie Daniels McDilda (Greg) of Fraziers
Bottom, WV; Fred Daniels (Mary Anne) of Norton, Ed Daniels (Teresa) of Wise; 15
grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren, a sister, Belle
Crocker Miller, Clute, TX, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends
from 5:30-7:30 PM Monday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services
will be conducted at 7:30 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Jim Smith
officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday
at Laurel Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by
10:30 AM Tuesday to travel in procession to the cemetery.

BURL BAKER
WISE, VA - Burl Baker, 86, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014
at his home. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean
Conflict. Burl was a retired coal truck driver.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years,
Elaine Baker of Wise, VA; a daughter, Stacey Baker of Richmond, VA; a brother,
Buford Baker and his wife Rita of Coeburn, VA; a sister, Margie Beverly and her
husband Carl of Pound, VA; several nieces and nephews.

from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in
Norton. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday at Greenwood
Acres Cemetery in Coeburn with Rev. Greg Sergent officiating. Military Honors
will be conducted by the National Guard Funeral Honors Team and local veterans
groups.
