ELAINE STOKES BUSH

NORTON, VA - Margaret Elaine Stokes Bush, 59, formerly of Norton, Virginia, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014.  Elaine was a daughter of the late Lloyd Stokes and Anne Bradford Stokes.  For many years she and her husband, Joe made their home in New Jersey where they raised their family.  In more recent times they made their home in Greenville, SC.  Elaine was an avid bird watcher, and will be remembered by her family as a wonderful wife, mother and sister. A brother, Bill Stokes, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Joe Bush, her daughters: Emily Susan Bush, Penndel, PA, Julia Kathleen Bush, Alexandria, VA, and Laura Allison Bush, Norton, VA; her mother Anne L. Stokes, Norton, VA, and her sister, Allison West, Cincinnati, OH.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Graveside services and burial will be at 1 PM Saturday at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jim Wells officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation by visiting  www.epilepsy.com.

CHARLES HOUSEMAN

BIG STONE GAP, VA - Charles Herman Houseman, 89, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at his home in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  Born in Bellaire, Michigan, Mr. Houseman was a retired Master Sgt. from the U.S. Army, having served in both World War II and the Korean War.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha M. Houseman, and is survived by his children:  Donald L. Houseman, Catherine A. Spicer, and John E. Houseman; three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  Other family include Rita, Michelle, and Izzy Venable, and his close friends Chuck and Kathy Rowles.

At his request his services and burial will be private.  Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home of Norton is serving the Houseman family.

BETTY LOU MULLINS

NORTON, VA - Betty Lou Mullins, 86, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Signature Health Care in Greeneville, TN. Born in Berwind, WV, she was a daughter of Henry Lee and Dora (Easterling) Flanary.  Betty was a retired operator for the former C&P Telephone Company in Norton where she received a recognition award for helping with a suicide prevention. She was formerly a member of the Central Freewill Baptist Church in Norton.  She was preceded in death by her husband Haskell Mullins in 1998 and a son, Ronnie Mullins in 1970.

Surviving are her daughter and husband, Rosemarie and Tom Savage, Afton, TN, a  son and his wife, Jimmy and Phyllis Mullins, Norton, VA, and daughter, Kimberly Kennedy, Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Faye Poff officiating.  Family and friends will meet by 10:30 AM Monday at the funeral home, where they will then travel in procession to the Laurel Grove Cemetery for burial services. 


DORIS ELIZABETH ADDISON

NORTON, VA - Doris Elizabeth “Libby” Donald Addison died Monday, September 15, 2014 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.  She was the widow of Sandy Addison. Libby was a daughter of the late Paul Donald and her mother Emma Jean (Herron) Jaramillo.  In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sisters:  Judith Donald and Darlene Passero, and her “sister-friends”:  Trena Warming, Ruth Ann Villarreal, Michelle Gress; and her extended family including nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Services celebrating Libby’s life will be conducted at 6 PM Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, with Pastor Glen Ritchie officiating.


HELEN JEANETTE SUMMERS

NORTON, VA – Helen Jeanette Summers, 89, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 at Nova Healthcare Center in Weber City, VA. Helen was preceded in death by her son, Earnest Michael Summers and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Wicks. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by her children; Vivian and Don Bradley of Castlewood, VA, Darrell and Shelby Summers of Norton, VA, James Walter and Doris Summers of Fort Blackmore, VA, Everette and Janie Summers of Chattanooga, TN, Loretta and Howard McKean of Gate City, VA, Ronald and Gaylene Summers of Delaware, OH, Delores and Pat Petche of Seminole, FL and Jack Summers of Chattanooga, TN; 21 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Louise Robinette of Big Stone Gap, VA, Billie Statzer of Somerset, KY and Earlene Arnold of Richmond, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Friday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Darrell Bolling officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Horne Cemetery in Ft. Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for committal. 


GREGORY OWEN SMITH

NORTON, VA - Gregory Owen Smith, 52, died Monday, October 13, 2014 at his home from complications of his struggle with mesothelioma.  Greg was retired from his work in construction, and enjoyed his time outdoors hunting and fishing.  He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Smith.

Surviving him are his five children:  Steven Smith, Ryland Smith, Rose Smith, Raeanna Smith, and Reid Smith; his mother, Darlene Christian, his brother David Smith, and his sisters, Jane Ketron and Margaret Harris.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Roger Sloce officiating.  Family and friends will gather between 10:00 and 10:30 AM Friday, where they then will travel in procession to the Highland Cemetery in Norton for burial.


CHARLES JAMES WHITE

NORTON, VA - Charles James White, 83, died Friday, October 10, 2014 at Peak Resources Nursing Home in Charlotte, NC.

Born in Dunbar, VA, he was a son of the late Charles and Hazel (Harden) White.  Mr. White was of the Apostolic faith and formerly lived in Norton, VA before moving to the Charlotte area in the late 1960’s. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Penley White and a son, Phillip Ray White.

Surviving are his sons; Stephen R. White (Michelle), James A White (Nancy) and Joseph C. White (Shelia) all of Charlotte, NC; his daughter, Yvonne White Hollar (Robin) of Cherryville, NC; 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton.


JANICE FAYE CHAFFIN

ST. PAUL, VA – Janice Faye Chaffin, 53, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at her residence in St. Paul, VA. She was the daughter of the late Harold Sidney Bolling and Wilma Jean Ison Bolling and the sister-in-law of the late Roger Clarence Fultz.

She was a J.J. Kelly graduate, majoring in business, beginning her career working for Payless Supermarket in Wise, VA. As her career grew so did her family, leaving the workforce behind, she devoted her time and energy to her husband, children and then grandchildren. She also shared her love with her two beloved canine companions, Jerry Lee and Odie and feline companion, Black Jack. She was loved by everyone whom she touched with her love and kindness. She will be missed.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Donald Harold Chaffin of St. Paul, VA; her son, Matthew Chaffin, his wife Jessi Chaffin and granddaughter Julieanna Fergason (age 5) and grandson Alex Cole (age 4) all of Castlewood, VA; a step son, Kevin Chaffin, his wife Crystal Chaffin and grandson Isaac Chaffin (age 12) of Lebanon, VA; her sisters, Margaret Ann Fultz and Norma Jean Sturgill; brothers, Charles Glenn Bolling and his wife Donna Jean Light Bolling, Gary Lynn Bolling and his wife Brenda Bolling; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Janice also leaves us without knowing the love of a grandchild that hasn’t been born yet.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Sunday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA.
