NORTON, VA - James Gregory “Greg”
Orender, 52, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Ridgecrest Nursing Home in
Duffield, VA. He was the son of the late
James Ray and Pauline (Neal) Orender. Greg
was a Senior Draftsman for Marshall Miller & Associates engineering firm.
Surviving are his daughter,
Melody Allison “Alli” Orender, Abingdon, VA, his sister, Sharon Mullins and her
husband, Leon, Wise, VA, a niece, Kimberly Collins, and her husband, Kevin,
Wise, two aunts: Ruble Neal Hamlin and
Ruth Stallard; and his special friends:
Dan Stidham, David Hibbs, Derek and Chuck Stidham, Tony Wampler, Chris

from 5-7 PM Tuesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be at 7 PM Tuesday in
the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Allen Culbertson and the Reverend
Larry Mullins officiating. Family and
friends will gather from 10:00 – 10:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home, where
they then will travel together in procession to the Laurel Grove Cemetery in
Norton for burial.
KATHY ADKINS
WISE, VA – Mary Katherine “Kathy”
Adkins, 57, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at her residence following a courageous
battle with cancer. With her warm and loving spirit she welcomed everyone into
her home with open arms. Kathy was a member of the Light House Church in Wise,
VA. She enjoyed volunteering for the Big Heart Project with the Norton Lions
Club. Kathy was an exceptional General Manager of Glenn’s Finer Homes, Pound
location for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her brother, Randy
Teasley in 2010.
She is survived by her husband,
Greg Adkins of Wise, VA; a son, Jimmy Kinser and his wife Diane of Wise, VA;
two daughters, Chasity Fitzpatrick and her husband B.T. of Roanoke, VA, Angel
Kinser of Wise, VA; stepson, Isaac Adkins and his wife Stefoni of Wise, VA,
stepdaughter, Tonia Adkins of Norton, VA; parents, Glenn and Marilyn (Statzer)
Teasley of Norton, VA; sisters, Nancy Kim Benham of Greenville, SC, LaWahna Search
and her husband Steve of Goshen, NY; grandchildren, Austin and Kaitlyn Dickson,
Jessika and Triston Moore, Trinity Bentley, Isaiah, Hannah and Abigail Kinser,
Logan Dishner, Jordan and Gabriella Wyatt, Landon and Katherine Adkins; sister-in-law, Anne Jacobe of Norton, VA; several
nieces and nephews.

friends to share their memories of Kathy after 6:00 PM. Funeral services will
be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roger
Barker officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11:00 AM
Thursday at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will gather
at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Thursday to travel in procession to the
cemetery.

OPHELIA FORNEY
NORTON, VA – Ophelia Mae Forney,
63, died Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Holston Valley Medical Center. She was of
the Baptist faith and a member of the Evangelistic Choralaires. She was a
loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by three sons,
Mark Forney of Norton, VA, Gene and Sharon Forney of Norton, VA, Herbert and Tamika
Forney of Evansville, IN; two daughters, Mae Dingus of Hope Mills, NC, Althea
and Mike Hill of Norton, VA; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and
great great grandchildren; four brothers, Robert Forney of Monroe, NC, Thomas and Edna Forney
of Coeburn, VA, Tim Forney and Paul Forney, both of Norton, VA; two sisters,
Lena and David Foster of Coeburn, VA, Wanda Forney of Baltimore, MD; several
nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jenay Tate.

DANNY LEE CARTER, SR.
GATE CITY, VA – Danny Lee Carter,
Sr., 75, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 in the VA Medical Center in Mountain Home,
TN. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray
Carter, a sister, Patty Hibbard and a daughter, Cindy Mata,
He is survived by his wife of 51
years, Elizabeth Hall Carter of Gate City, VA; a son, Danny Lee Carter, Jr. and
his wife Judy of Minot, North Dakota; grandchildren, Dakota and Trey Carter,
Paula Seals, Ashley and Matthew Mata, Austin, Haley, Amber and Hunter Davis; 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Jerry
Carter of Gate City, VA; two sisters, Nancy Bolling and her husband Norris of
Wise, VA, Joy O’Rark and her husband Dave of Grey, TN; several nieces and
nephews.

in the Addington Cemetery where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by
the Gate City National Guard Funeral Honors Team and local Veterans Groups.
NORMA SINICROPE
NORTON, VA – Norma Setzer
Sinicrope, 101, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Panama City, Florida. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norton, VA. She loved her family
and her church and her avocation was teaching and gardening. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Arthur Sinicrope in 1983.
She is survived by two sons, Dr.
Ronald A Sinicrope and his wife Jeri Sinicrope of Panama City, Florida, Joseph
D. Sinicrope and his wife, Dr. Jacqui Sinicrope of Charlotte, NC; a daughter,
Dr. Patricia E. Sinicrope of Panama City, FL; seven grandchildren; nine great
grandchildren; a sister, Marion Foster of Foley, MO.
Graveside funeral services will
be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens,
Big Stone Gap, Va. with Rev. Lee Kidd officiating. Family and friends will meet
at 1:00 PM Sunday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA to travel in
procession to the cemetery. A reception will follow after the service in the Appalachian Room at the Holiday Inn in Norton, VA.

GEREVA JAMES HUNNICUTT
NORTON, VA - Gereva James Hunnicutt,
67, passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 at Mountain View Regional Medical
Center. She was the widow of Warren
Harding Hunnicutt and was a daughter of the late Robert and Hannah Ruth
(Gilliam) James. Her grandmother, Electa
Glass Gilliam preceded her in death, as did an infant sister, Lora Ann James,
and two brothers: Roy Allen James and
Leon James.
Surviving are her daughters (and
their spouse): Kimberly Ann Hunnicutt, Wise, VA, Pamela (David) Mullins, Wise,
VA, Georgeanne (Ronald) Mays, Norton; her grandchildren: Warren Alexander Hunnicutt, Adam David Allen
Mullins, Kelsey Rebecca Mullins, Zachary Keith Allen Mays, Holden Isaiah Hunnicutt, and Daniel Bryson Mays; a brother,
Morris James, Coeburn, VA, and a sister, Nola Jones, Kingsport, TN.

DOROTHY FIELDS
NORTON, VA – Dorothy Salyers Fields,
89, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 after a short illness. She was of the
Christian faith. She was the widow of Curtis Fields. She was also preceded in
death by her brothers, Ralph Salyers and Tom Salyers; her sisters, Edith
Bohnert, Wanda Castle and Doris Willis. She took great joy in her family and
friends and was blessed with many friends and relatives who loved her.
Dorothy is survived by three
sons, Lee Fields and his wife Karen of Salem, OR, Bruce Fields and his wife
Annette of Norton, VA, Shayne Fields of Norton, VA; a daughter, Sue Bentley and
her husband Dave of Coeburn, VA; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.

BEULAH ISON SLOCE
WISE, VA - Beulah Ison Sloce, 87,
died, Thursday, August 01, 2013 at the home of her daughter, following an
extended illness. She was the daughter
of the late Ira and Dora Bell (Roberts) Ison, and the widow of Willard “Tut”
Sloce. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dwight Osco Sloce; her brothers, William Ison and Kinard
Ison, her sisters, Eva Ison Hunsucker, Eura Ison Sturgill, Elsie Ison Owens and
Thelma Ison. Beulah attended the Wise Mountain Fellowship Church, was a member
of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of the Wise County
Republican Party.
She is survived by her children
and their spouses, Braccle and Brenda Sloce of Norton, VA, Greta and Harold
Stanley of Bristol, VA, Reisa Sloce of Wise, VA and adopted daughter, Sheila
Setias of Wise, VA; her grandchildren, Lori Sloce Morris of Woodstock, GA,
Kristal Sloce of Norcross, GA, Harvy and Jess Stanley of Bristol, VA; her great
grandchildren, Evan and Jarrett Morris of Woodstock, GA, and Mackenzie and
Tyler Stanley of Bristol, VA; several nieces and nephews.

from 5-7:30 PM Saturday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. An Order of the Eastern Star service will be
conducted at 7:30 PM. Funeral services
will be at 1 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Dr. Greg
Sergent and the Reverend Roger Sloce officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinette Cemetery
in the Powell River community. Pallbearers
will be grandson Harvy Stanley, great grandchildren, Evan and Jarrett Morris,
