NORTON, VA - Jerry Wayne Bell,
63, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at his home on Thacker’s Branch, following
an extended illness. Born in Coeburn,
VA, he was a son of Richard and June (Skeens) Bell. Jerry was founder and owner of Jerry’s
Service Center and J&M Parts Delivery Service in Norton. His passion was in helping those in
need. He was a member of Suthers Lodge #
259 AF & AM, a Kazim Shrine Temple Noble, and was currently the president
of the Wise County Shrine Club.
Surviving are his wife, Trina Owens
Bell, a son Jim Stratton and his wife, Kim, Knoxville, TN, a daughter, Mary
Sibiski, Palm Coast, FL, his grandchildren:
Jordan Sibiski, Hannah Stratton,
and Justin Sibiski; his brothers and sisters: Roger Bell, Patty Freeman, Pam Culbertson,
Debbie Hutchinson, Ricky Bell, Jeff Bell, Lisa Phillips, and Tina Neal.

from 4-7 PM, Friday, January 3 at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral
Home in Norton. Masonic rites will be
conducted at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel, followed by a funeral service,
with the Reverend Darrell Bolling officiating.
Family and friends will gather from 10 – 10:30 AM Saturday at the
funeral home, where they then will travel to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for
burial at 11:05 AM. Memorial contributions

FAYE BEGLEY
NORTON, VA – Faye Begley, 85,
died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at her home. She was a member of the Cave Church
in Norton, VA. Faye was a daughter of the late James and Mary Jesten Begley. She
was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ted H. Begley, Sr. and James “Red”
Begley, her sisters, Juanita Donnells, Mozella Jackson, Cecil Ross and Maxine
Podjurski.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, John and Sandy Begley of Norton, VA; a sister, Nellie Dosa of
Roanoke, AL; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends
from 5-7:00 PM Sunday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will
be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Jimmy Mitchell
and Tim Steffey officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at
11:00 AM Monday at Laurel Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will meet by 10:30
AM Monday at the funeral home to travel in procession to the cemetery.

JEAN HAMILTON KELLEY
NORTON, VA - Jean Hamilton Kelley, 80, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Norton Community Hospital. A daughter of Laymon and Ruth (Kilgore) Hamilton, she was the widow of William “Bill” Kelley. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hamilton.
Jean was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church in Norton, and was an active member of the Democratic Party from the age of 21 until her death. She was a long time employee of the Wise County Commissioner of Revenue office, and retired from the Wise County Sherriff’s Department.
She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Robertson, and her son, Tim Kelley, both of Norton; her sister, Joyce Horne and her husband, Bill, Wise, VA, a niece, Patricia Caldwell and her husband, Ernie, her nephew, William C. Horne and his wife, Rebecca, all of Wise, and her great-nieces and nephews: Brandi Boyd, Georgia and Liam Horne, and Coy and Cayse Roop.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, December 26, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be at 8 PM in the funeral home chapel. Family and friends will gather at 1 PM Friday at the funeral home, where they then will travel in procession to the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood for burial.
JAMES RAY "HOPPY" HOPKINS
NORTON, VA – “Hoppy” Hopkins, age
76. passed away at his residence Saturday, December 21, 2013. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he loved
playing golf, was active in the Appalachian Childrens’ Theatre, Norton Little
League, Norton Lions Club, Norton City School System, loving all school sports.
“Hoppy” always loved to help kids and young adults. He was an Honorable Kentucky
Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, James E. & Katherine Beverly Hopkins; a sister, Brenda Hopkins
Wade and a brother, Ellis Hopkins.
He is survived by his loving,
amazing wife of 54 years, Carol Connor Hopkins; his children: Laura Duffie and
husband Mike, Calhoun, GA, James R. Hopkins, Jr. and wife, Natysha, Palmetto,
FL, Janet Conner and husband, Mark, Norton, VA and Karen Kommes and husband,
Chris, Pound, VA; five grandchildren:
April Addison, Timothy Adams, Jr., Brook Blalock, Colin Duffie, and Ryan
Kommes; his great grandchildren: Emma
and Peyton Addison, Savannah & Sofia Adams, Adley Anne & Sailor Kate
Petterson, and Calvert Michael Duffie; sisters, Patty Flora, Elizabeth Brown,
Vie Dingus and Martha Hagy; brothers, Scotty Hopkins, Ricky Hopkins and Dwayne
“Tiny” Hopkins.

IVANANN PENDLETON
NORTON, VA - Ivanann B. Pendleton
(Nan), 95, of Christiansburg, Virginia, formerly of Norton, Virginia, left this
life for Heaven on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. She was born on August 15, 1918, the daughter
of the late Harry and Pearl Barrows. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Granville F. Pendleton.
Nan graduated from Milligan
College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1976 she received her Masters Degree of
Education from UVA, and in 1978 she obtained a Degree of Education Specialist
from UVA. She taught in the Wise County
school system for over 18 years. After
retiring, she served in the women’s auxiliary at the Norton Community Hospital.
She is survived by two sons;
James Pendleton and wife Linda of Christiansburg, Va., Robert Pendleton of
Tazewell, Va.; five grandchildren, Mike Pendleton and wife Stacy of Richmond,
Va., Tina Hammonds and husband Chris of Norton, Va., Josh Pendleton and Matthew
Wynn of Tazewell, Va., Millie Weaver and husband Mike of Christiansburg, Va.;
six great-grandchildren; Amanda and Ashley Pendleton, Christopher and Haley
Hammonds, Austin Stromme and Jaedyn Weaver.
The family would like to thank
the nursing staff at Heritage Hall, Blacksburg, VA, and Good Samaritan Hospice
for the loving care of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.

GENE COFFEY
NORTON, VA – Gene Coffey. 83,
passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013. Gene was a
Charter Member of the Norton Rescue Squad and was an Auxiliary officer with
Norton Police Department and Wise County Sheriff Department. He was a former
president of the Wise County Rescue Squad Association. Gene was a U.S. Army
Veteran having served during the Korean War and was a former member of Norton
VFW Post 4301. He attended the Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church. Gene was
preceded in death by his parents, Grand and Elsie Estep Coffey; a brother, Fred
Coffey; an extended family, Dixie Taylor Hill, Hetsre Ann Toney and Joseph
Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 59
years, Ruby Taylor Coffey of Norton, VA; son, Jeff Coffey and his wife Becky of
Norton, VA; Chris Taylor of Elizabethton, TN; daughters, Jeannie Cowden and her
husband Wayne of Norton, VA, Sgt. 1st Class Jennifer Taylor Owen and
her husband Todd of Wiesbaden, GE; grandchildren, Aaron Cowden, Dustin Cowden
and his wife Michelle, Jessee Coffey, Polly Taylor, Justin Regnold, Zachary
Regnold, Aiden Taylor, William Taylor and Cooper Taylor, great grandchildren,
Cameron Cowden, Isaac Cowden, Abbigail Cowden; extended family, Mary Lou Ramey

SHIRLEY WIREMAN
BIG STONE GAP, VA – Shirley Renee Wireman, 42, departed this walk of Life Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at Holston Valley Hospital from complications of a stroke.
She was a 1989 graduate of John I. Burton High School. She was a member of West Norton Baptist Church in Norton, VA.
Surviving are her sons, Dustin Wireman (Tabitha) of Wise, VA and James David Wireman who reside with his father Kevin Wireman of Norton, VA; daughters, Shauna Wireman (Chance Jessee) of Norton, VA, Lindsey Wireman of Big Stone Gap, VA; grandsons, Carter Lee Jessee and Jacob Tyler Jessee. She is also survived by her mother, Carol Cox of Big Stone Gap, VA; her father, Ronnie Collins of Coeburn, VA; her sister, Sandra (Conley) Rutherford of Norton, VA; several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
