NORTON, VA – Betty June Kelly,
68, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center
in Norton. Born to the late Pat and Dora
May (Aistrop) Rutherford, she was raised in Keokee, Virginia. Betty was a resident of Regency Towers in
Norton. She was preceded in death by a
brother, Harold Rutherford, and a sister, Delores Price.
Surviving are her three sons, and
their wives, Donald and Aretha Kelly, Edenton, NC, Patrick and Rebecca Kelly,
Loveland, OH, and Brian and Heather Kelly, Lenoir City, TN; her grandchildren, Zack,
Chase, Elijah, Peyton, Matthew, and Emily; three brothers, Jerry Rutherford,
Don Rutherford, and Larry Rutherford; and two sisters, Rosa Klepper and Geneva
Bailey.
The family will receive friends
from 10 AM until 12 Noon Saturday, March 2, at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral
Home in Norton. Funeral services will be
at 12 Noon in the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow in the American
Legion Cemetery.
RENA ORENDER ASHWORTH
NORTON, VA – Rena Orender
Ashworth, 84, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at her home
surrounded by her family. Born in Dorchester, VA, Rena was a lifelong resident
of Wise County. She was a member of Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church for many
years. She was the first female member of the Norton Police Dept. Rena was
preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Beulah Davis, husband, Silas
Orender, husband Howard Ashworth, son, Ronald Orender, daughter-in-law, Linda
Orender, twin sister, Lena Davis, sisters, Charlotte McCallister and Pauline
Casolare, and brothers Clarence Davis and Jack Davis.
She is survived by a son, Sam
Orender; daughter-in-law, Sandy Orender; grandchildren, Rhonda Miller and
husband Eric, Erica Morgan and husband Roger, Kimberly Sterling and husband
Danny, Maggie Orender, Samantha Orender. Rena has three great grandchildren,
Tristan Miller, Kala Morgan, Marley Sterling; two brothers, Gilmer Davis and
Roy Davis, several nieces and nephews and a very special friend and
sister-in-law, Helen Orender.
The family will receive friends
from 6-8:00 PM Friday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will
be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday at the Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church with
Rev. Steve Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.
MARGARET ANN SALYER
COEBURN, VA – Margaret Ann
Salyer, 78, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 in Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in
Norton. She attended the Norton United Methodist Church. She retired as a
longtime employee of several local grocery stores. She was an avid bowler and
enjoyed the company of her fellow bowlers. Her husband, Arthur Salyer, Jr.,
preceded her in death on May 4, 2005.
Surviving are her sons and
daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Rhonda Salyer of Wise, VA, David and Carol Salyer
of Coeburn, VA, Jeff and Elisha Salyer of Nicholasville, KY; grandchildren,
Brad Salyer, Amber Salyer, Michael Salyer, Mark Salyer, Michelle Salyer,
Melissa Greg, Scott Salyer, Samantha Salyer, Kenneth Salyer and Chyna Greear; 4
great grandchildren; a brother, Ray Ardis of Eutawville, SC; a sister and
brother-in-law, Nettie Mae and Elmon Nobles of Sumter, SC; several nieces and
nephews and a special friend, Velma Salyers.
The family will receive friends
from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in
Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral
home chapel with Rev. Ken Taylor officiating. Graveside committal services will
be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, Feb 21, 2013 at Powell Valley Memorial
Gardens. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Thursday
to travel in procession to the cemetery.

MILDRED E, STURGILL
BIG STONE GAP, VA – Mildred E.
Sturgill went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. She attended the Legion Memorial Methodist Church. She
was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roy B. Sturgill; her parents,
James and Martha Owens; her brothers, Percy and Hagamon Owens and a sister,
Beatrice Hubbard.
She is survived by two sons,
Jerry and Rebecca Sturgill of Cedar Bluff, VA, Roy Dennis and Sue Sturgill of
Big Stone Gap, VA; two daughters, Nancy and Ruben Allman of Big Stone Gap, VA, Wilma
and Jim Light of Big Stone Gap, VA; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1
great great grandson; a brother, Jack and Eva Owens of Norton, VA; a sister,
Agnes Cooke of Norton, VA.
The family will receive friends
from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral
services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with
Rev. Ric Wright officiating. Entombment will be at 10:45 AM Friday at the
Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Family and friends will meet at the Powell
Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Friday morning for the committal.

JUNE PATE JACKSON
NORTON, VA -- June Pate Stallard Jackson, 97, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. Born to Edd D. and Mary Robinette Pate, she was the widow of Shelby H. Jackson, and her first husband, Robert Stallard. June was of the Freewill Baptist Faith and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Stallard Roberts and her husband, Roy, of Norton, a granddaughter Robin Roberts Carico, Norton, a great granddaughter, Shelby Carico, Emory, Virginia, and a step-daughter-in-law, Wanda Jackson, Milton, FL. There are several step-grandchildren from Florida, Texas, South Carolina, and Ohio.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 PM in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Lee Kidd officiating. Committal services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Reverend John Ellington officiating. Burial will then follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery.
