PAULA ANN SEYMORE

NORTON, VA - Paula Ann “Ghee Ghee” Seymore, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton.  Paula was an employee of the hospital.  She attended church at both the Guest River Penetecostal Church and the Abundant Life Apostolic Church in Big Stone Gap.

She leaves her husband, Michael Seymore, her parents, Patricia Ann and Walt Lewis, Norton, her father, David Merchant, her brothers and sisters:  Tony McCray and Preston McCray, Christy Lewis, all of Norton, and Nikki Little, Pikeville, KY; several nieces and nephews, including Kaelynn Robinson and Preston McCray, Jr.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Saturday in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends from noon until service time Saturday.  Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.


ALMA FAYE KERNS

COEBURN, VA – Alma Faye Kerns, 75, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 in Mountain View Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Vernon Q. Kerns of Coeburn, VA; three daughters, Teresa Jackson of Coeburn, VA, Michelle Watts and her husband James of Blountville, TN, Vicky Jackson and her husband Tommy of  Coeburn, VA; a son, Vernon Q. Kerns, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Wise, VA; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Mullis of Norton, VA, A.J. Mullis of Kentucky, Ricky Mullis of Appalachia, VA; a sister, Mary Cecil of Keokee, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Hagy and Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. R.L. Crawford officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Greenwood Memorial Park in Coeburn, VA. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for committal.


GEORGE "KELLY" WILLIS

NORTON, VA – George “Kelly” Willis, 82, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.  Born to the late George and Dora (Stidham) Willis, he was the last surviving of his generation of siblings that included his five sisters and three brothers.  Kelly was a graduate of the Class of 1949 of the Norton High School, and was retired from the former C&P Telephone Company.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  Kelly was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Ann “Cassie” Hensley and a granddaughter, Carrie Leigh Hensley.

Surviving are his wife, Edith J. Willis, his daughters Debbie Ward and her husband, Ernie, and Kelli Sue Willis; and his grandchildren Matthew Kelly Ward and his wife Adrienne, Wes Ward and Jacob Hensley.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jim Wells officiating.  The family and friends will gather by 10:30 AM Monday at the funeral home, where they then will travel together in procession to the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for burial.


ROBERT DEATON SMITH, JR.

KNOXVILLE, TN - Robert Deaton Smith, Jr., 65, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 in Knoxville, TN.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Saturday at Rose Mortuary in Knoxville. Services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel.

Graveside committal services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Sunday at Temple Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.


BRIAN ISON

WISE, VA – Brian Ison, 27, died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at his home. Our beautiful, loving son and brother has left this world far too soon. While we are left saddened, heaven has gained a wonderful soul.  He will forever be missed, but he lives on in the memories we all shared with him.  In that sense, he will live on forever in our hearts.  He was one of the most intelligent, giving, and caring people we have ever known. Perhaps one of the most heartbreaking things is that the world will never know what all he had to gibe and all of his potential. We love and miss you, sweet Brian. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Poley Ison and great grandparents, Margaret and Percy Owens.

He is survived by his mother, Mardee Scott and her husband John of Norton, VA; his father, Brian Ison and his wife Starla of Pound, VA; his fianceé, Kelsey Mullins of Wise, VA; his sister, Ashley Fryatt and her husband Steven of Wise, VA; his brother, Christian Still of Norton, VA; his sisters, Leah Jett of Pound, VA, Taylor McCoy of Clintwood, VA, his brother, Lakota Ison of Pound, VA, step brother, Jason Balthis of Sarasota, FL; grandparents, Lucille Ison of Pound, VA, Gloria Gay Kerns of Macon, GA, Larry Wampler of Hampton, VA; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. The service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jimmy Mitchell officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at Laurel Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Thursday to travel in procession to the cemetery.


MICHAEL WAYNE ELKINS

NORTON, VA – Michael Wayne “Mikey” Elkins, 53, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was the son of Peter and Vera Elkins.

He is survived by his twin brother, Mitchell Elkins of Wise, VA; his sisters, Ruby Church of Norton, VA, Marlene D. Gilliam of Wise, VA; his brothers, Neil Ward and his wife Agnes of Chattanooga, TN, Larry Gilliam and his wife Carol of Norton, VA.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Hall for their care and kindness.

The family will have a private burial.


AMANDA LEE ROBERTS

NORTON, VA - Amanda Lee Roberts passed away in the wee hours of Friday, June 07, 2013 at Holston Valley Medical Center, in Kingsport, TN.  She was a cherished member of the Powell River community that she dearly loved.  Amanda was a longtime employee of pediatrician, Dr. Parmod Sapra.  In this capacity she touched the lives of many people with her kindness, patience, and devotion.  She will be missed tremendously. 

She is survived by her loving and beloved son, Andrew Day, his wife Daphanie, of Norton, and her grandchildren Patrick, Allie, and Aaron, of whom she was extremely proud.  Also surviving are her father, James Roberts, Norton, her siblings Suzanne Hall, Sharps Chapel, TN, Judi Orell and her husband, Harry, Beaverdam, VA, John Roberts and his wife, Sallie, Ellicott City, MD, Cathy Henson, and her husband, Ned, Ashland, VA, as well as several loving nieces, nephews, two grand nieces, and one grand nephew.  In addition, she leaves behind many precious friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home chapel.  Services will be conducted at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel with Donnie Culbertson officiating.
