WILMA DORIS RATLIFF STONE

WISE, VA - Wilma Doris Ratliff Stone, 71, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center.  Wilma was born in St. Paul, Virginia, a daughter of Fred Cameron and Ella Mae (Jacobs) Ratliff.  She was a graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College and was a retired health caregiver. While at SVCC she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She had been a resident of Heritage Hall in Big Stone Gap for the past few years.  Wilma was a devoted follower of Christ.  She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers:  Dorothy Jean Ratliff, Mary Magdalene Ratliff, Fred Allen Ratliff, Lonnie Harold Ratliff, and Jerry Lee Ratliff.

Surviving are her children:  Genia (David “Yogi”) Ramey, Angela “Angie” Grigsby and her fiancé  Michael Ward, and Carl (Heather) Stone, all of Wise; the children’s father, Douglas Stone, Castlewood, VA, her two sisters:  Shirley (Clarence) Hobbs, Clearwater, FL, and Mary Ruth Childress, Clintwood, VA.  There are seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Tuesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Funeral services will be at 7 PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jim Wells officiating.  The family and friends will gather at 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home, where they then will travel in procession to Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood for burial.


ANTHONY FULTZ

BIG STONE GAP, VA – Anthony E. (Tony) Fultz, 42, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Lonesome Pine Hospital. He was a former employee of Cassell Electric Co. He was preceded in death by his father, Freddie Jim Fultz.

He is survived by his son, Anthony Christopher Fultz of Big Stone Gap, VA; a daughter, Christian Jade Fultz of Norton, VA; a granddaughter, Emma Grace Fultz; his mother, Mildred Fultz of Big Stone Gap, VA; his brothers, Gregory Fultz, Terry Fultz and his wife, Ruby all of Big Stone Gap, VA, James Fultz of Norton, VA; sisters, Pam Tardy of Kingsport, TN and Donna Allen of Norton, VA; and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Friday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kenneth Sturgill officiating. Interment will be at a later date.


JOSEPHINE KILGORE

NORTON, VA – Josephine (Jo) Lynn Kilgore died Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Holston Valley Hospital. Josephine was an employee of Wal-Mart in Norton and Food City in Wise. Josephine loved animals and had great compassion for hungry animals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Ruth Kilgore; a sister, Sandra Kilgore; the love of her life, her dog Ginger and best buddy, Pinto.

Survivors are her sister, Judy Kilgore on Norton, VA; special cousins, Richard Stewart of Wise, VA and Tom Stewart of Greensboro, NC; good friends and neighbors, Harold and Trish Peters of Norton, VA; special friends, Mitch and Ginny, Jana, Fred Cross, Brad, Judy Jones, Betty King and special Magic Mart friends and her cat, Fancy.

At Josephine’s request there will be no public funeral service. A private committal service will be in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. 


ROBERT LAWSON

NORTON, VA – Robert Earl Lawson, 63, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. He pastored for over 25 years at several area churches and was currently pastoring at Open Door Assembly of God in Norton. His passion was his faith and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Lawson and Yvonne Winebarger Lawson Johnson, his daughters, Roberta Earlene Lawson and Angela Faye Lawson, and a brother, Johnny Ray Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Ann Darnell Lawson of Norton, VA; daughters, Crystal Cole and her husband Ron of Wise, VA, Becky Lawson of Wise, VA, Myra Palmer and her husband Bud of Norton, VA; foster daughter, Wanda Henson of Kentucky; grandchildren, Canaan Stacy, Abram Stacy, Brittany Hensley and her husband Michael, Tiffany Cole, Emily Trent, Sarah Bevins, Cassie Palmer, William Palmer and Ally Palmer; his brother, Harold Lawson and his wife Lynn of Wise, VA; his sister, Margaret Hamm and her husband Raymond of Sandusky, OH; his mother-in-law, Alice Fields of Norton, VA; step father, Offie Johnson of Coeburn, VA; a host of nieces, nephews and church family.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 PM Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Dennis Banks, Roger Jenkins and Donald Harding, Jr. officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted 3:00 PM Sunday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home 2:30 PM Sunday to travel in procession to the cemetery.


BARBARA FRALEY

FALLS CHURCH, VA- Barbara Piper Sutton Fraley, 89, died March 17, 2013, with her family by her side in Falls Church, Virginia.  She was born September 25, 1923, in Arlington, Virginia, to Samuel and Marian Perkins Sutton. Her parents owned and operated Cameo Furniture Store in Washington, DC.

Barbara graduated from Washington and Lee High School in 1941. She attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia. She met William E. Fraley, Jr. when he was cadet at VPI and they married in 1942.  In 1946 they moved to Norton, Virginia, where sons Roger S. Fraley and William E. Fraley, III were born.  In 1951, they moved to Falls Church, Va. where their daughter Catherine Page Fraley was born. While in Falls Church, Barbara was an active member of Dulin United Methodist Church and the Falls Church Women’s Club. She was active in politics and volunteered with the Falls Church Cerebral Palsy Center.

After retirement in 1972, they returned to Norton where Barbara worked for Dr. John Dellinger, Paul’s Music Service, and The Coalfield Progress.  She was a member of the Norton United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for 20 years. She was also a member and president of the United Methodist Women and a member of the administrative board. Barbara belonged to the Green Thumb Garden Club for thirty years serving as its first president. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital, Mountain Empire Older Citizens, and was a tutor with the Adult Literacy Program.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Marian Sutton; husband, William Elbert Fraley, Jr.; sister, Martha Sutton; and sister and brother-in-law, Claudia and Tremaine Rambo.

She is survived by her three children, Roger Sutton Fraley of West Palm Beach, Fl., William Elbert Fraley Jr. and Catherine Page Fraley both of Falls Church, Va.; her grandchildren Gordon and wife Elisabeth of Arlington, Va., Kaelin, Logan and Graham Fraley of McLean, Va.; her great-grandchild Pendleton Lyons Fraley of Arlington, Va.; her nephew Gregory Rambo, wife Sandra, and family; and 17 Fraley nieces and nephews and their families.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 29, from 5:00 to 7:00, at Hagy Fawbush Funeral Home, Norton, Va. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday March 30, at the Norton United Methodist Church with a reception following at the Holiday Inn. Interment will be at 2:30 pm Saturday at the Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, Va.

BOBBY GLEN HERRON

BIG STONE GAP, VA – Bobby Glen Herron, 75, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith. Bobby was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a former employee of Century Cable in Norton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Jean Herron, in 2006.

He leaves behind 2 sons, John Herron of League City, TX, Allen Herron and his wife, Toni, of East Stone Gap, VA; 2 daughters, Ruth Ashley and her husband, Doug, of Big Stone Gap, VA, Bobbie Joe Lovell and her husband, Keith, of Big Stone Gap, VA; 2 grandsons, Nicholas Lovell and Cody Lovell; a granddaughter, Chelsey Herron; a sister, Jean Jaramillo of Norton, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Saturday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Glen Ritchie officiating. Burial will following the American Legion Cemetery.
