BIG STONE GAP, VA – Betty Jane Donnells
Stidham, “39 and holding,” died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at her home. She was an
employee at the Flatwoods Job Corps for 33 years. She was the daughter of the
late Cossie and Bessie Wallens Donnells. Betty was the widow of Vernus Glen
Stidham. She was also preceded in death
by a grandson, Michael Robbins.
She is survived by her daughters,
Deanna Stidham of Big Stone Gap, VA and Robin Stidham of Christiansburg, VA;
grandchildren, Daniel Chandler, Jason Davis and Kellen Campbell; great
grandchildren, Kaitlyn Davis and Trinity Chandler; a sister, Louise Blackwell
of Norton, VA, Nancy McFalls of Norton, VA, Judy Donnells of Roanoke, VA;
several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends
from 6-9:00 PM Sunday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Graveside funeral
services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens
with Rev. Johnny McFalls officiating.
JAMES H. PRICE, JR.
NORTON, VA - James H. Price, Jr.,
62, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at his home in Norton. Born in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of
the late James Harold Price, Sr. and Mary Jane Lewis Price. James was a 1969 graduate of John I. Burton
High School in Norton, he attended Virginia Tech and was a graduate of the
former Clinch Valley College in Wise. He
held various positions with the Flatwoods Job Corps throughout his career,
including teacher, vocational manager, and forest fighter. He enjoyed working with the youth he
served. His Christian faith was
important to him his entire life. He was
a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church of Norton. James was a loving son, brother, father,
uncle, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with family and being a
first-time grandfather for the last two and a half years. His passion was
playing guitar and collecting memorabilia from his favorite band, “The
Ventures”. He played in various bands
from the ‘60’s through the ‘80’s. He was
a professional DJ for over 30 years.
Surviving are his children James
Clay Price and his wife, LaVonna, Jonesville, VA, Jason Matthew Price and Lori
Elizabeth Price, both of Norton; his brother, Richard Price, Norton, and his
two sisters: Jane Mayes, Norton, and Amy
Beacham, San Diego, CA; a granddaughter, Hadlea Price, and another
granddaughter soon to arrive, a niece and several nephews.
The family will receive friends
from 5-7 PM Friday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be at 7 PM in the funeral
home chapel, with the Reverend John Ellington officiating. Family and friends will gather between 10 and
10:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home, where they then will travel in
procession to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for burial.
MADYLON ADDINGTON
COEBURN, VA – Madylon Addington,
71, went to be with the Lord Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at her home. She was a nurse
for over 40 years and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Norton for 18 years. She
attended the Central Freewill Baptist Church in Norton. Madylon was preceded in
death by her parents, James Thacker and Elsie Clark Thacker, a brother, John
Clark and a sister Lucille Scott.
She is survived by her husband of
55 years, Frank H. Addington of Coeburn, VA; two sons, John Addington of
Kingsport, TN and Greg Alan Addington of Coeburn, VA; three sisters, Mae Owens
of Big Stone Gap, VA, Shirley Mullins and her husband Edward Joe of Pound, VA,
Phyllis Smith and her husband Delbert of Abingdon, VA; several nieces and
nephews.
The family will receive friends
from 6-8:00 PM Wednesday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral
services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with
Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Addington-Hensley Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions may be made to the
Central Freewill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 621, Norton, VA 24273.
RUTH BRICKEY FULTZ
BIG STONE GAP, VA - Ruth Brickey
Fultz, 91, went home to be with her LORD on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at her
home in the Powell Valley community. Born in Wise County, Virginia, she was a
daughter of Daniel and Bessie (Crider) Brickey.
Ruth was the widow of Elmer Fultz, Sr. and was a member of Spirit and
Truth Worship Center in Big Stone Gap.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Ronnie McFalls II.
Surviving are her children and
their spouses: Phyllis and Kenneth L.
Sturgill, Cheryl and Ron McFalls, all of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, James and
Rofan Fultz, Jr. and Rickey and Cheryl A. Fultz, all of Sevierville, TN; her
sisters: Juanita Wells and Lottie Meade;
and her brother, Harold Brickey. Her
grandchildren are: Nathan McFalls, Boddy
Fultz, Christa Renee Newport, and Kendra Nichole Gibbs; her great grandchildren: Hayden, Halston, Aria, Bethany, Andrew and
Haley.
The family gratefully
acknowledges the care given to Mrs. Fultz by Linda Oliver and Clara
Bolling. They will receive friends from
5:30 PM until 7 PM Monday at Spirit and Truth Worship Center in Big Stone
Gap. Funeral services will be at 7 PM at
the church with the Reverend Kenneth L. Sturgill officiating. Family and friends will gather between 10 and
10:30 AM Tuesday at the church where they then will travel in procession to the
Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for burial.

HERMAN BRINKLEY
NORTON, VA – Herman Franklin
Brinkley, 53, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, Nov.
3, 2013. Herman, beloved, wonderful father and husband was a friend to everyone
who knew him. He fought the good fight with his battle with cancer. Christ said, “My
grace is sufficient for thee, for my power is made perfect in your weakness.”
May God of love and peace be with us all!
Herman was a man surrounded by
loving family members, his wife and children, his church family and his
wonderful Wal-Mart family. His heart matched his size and all have been blessed
to know him and to be loved by him. To God be the Glory!
Herman was a member and Elder of
the Norton Evangelical Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Norton
Police Department Auxiliary. He was the store manager at the Norton Wal-Mart
with 22 years of service to the company.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Redden and Freida Brinkley.
Herman is survived by his wife,
Sandra Brinkley of Norton, VA; a son, Kendall Brinkley of Norton, VA; a
daughter, Terri Brinkley of Norton, VA; four grandchildren, Evan, Maelie, Kinsley,
and Tyler; special son, Armin Sluyter; a brother, David Brinkley and his wife
Pam of Georgia; two sisters, Diane Lawrence and her husband Stuart of Maryland,
Brenda Abee and her husband Tony of Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends
from 12:00 noon until 7:00 PM Wednesday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home
chapel with Rev. Dr. Mike Porter officiating. Graveside committal services will
be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family and
friends will meet at 10:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home to travel in
procession to the cemetery.
