CHARLES DEE TROSPER

NORTON, VA – Charles Dee Trosper, 75, died Monday, August 21, 2017 at Norton Community Hospital.

Born in Knox County, KY, he was a son of Jess and Lillie Patterson Trosper, and his step-father was Daniel Fuson.  He was also preceded in death by a grandmother, Sallie Patterson.

Charles was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a retired cross-country truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Trosper, his daughters:  Yvonne Isom and Renee Roberts, of Appalachia, VA, his sons-in-law:  Ralph Isom and Zack Roberts, his grandchildren:  Jonathan Bolling, Morgan and Jake Waterhouse, Cassie Isom, Wesley and Morgan Isom and Brittany and Travis Hensley; his great grandchildren:  Xan Waterhouse, Preston Isom, Braydon and Emma Hensley; his brothers:  Danny (Karen) Fuson, and Lowell Fuson; and his sisters:  Dana Fuson, Linda (Danny) Cassel, Wanda Countis; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 – 1 PM Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Graveside services will be at 1 PM Thursday at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, with Myers Vicars officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Virginia National Guard Honors Team and local veteran service organizations.


DANNY RITTENBERRY

NORTON, VA – Danny Rittenberry, 71, ended life’s journey Friday, August 18, 2017 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Wise, VA.  Danny was a retired federal mediator with over 35 years’ service with the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC.  Following his retirement, he came home to Wise County.  He was a member of the Norton Lions Club, and had been recognized by the club for his work with the club’s Big Heart Fund.  A son of the late Carnie and Mae Tackett Rittenberry, he is survived by a brother Herman Rittenberry, his sisters, Roma Arch and Naomi Ollinger, grandsons:  Jerry Meade, Dallas Meade, and Walker Meade; and several nieces and nephews.

 A celebration of Danny’s life will be Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 2 PM in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home chapel.  The family would like to recognize and thank the staff of Heritage Hall Wise for their attention and devotion.


IDA TRIGIANI

BIG STONE GAP, VA – Ida Bonicelli Trigiani died peacefully on August 9, 2017 at 10:35 a.m. in her home in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  Ida was born in Chisholm, Minnesota to Italian immigrants Lucia (Spada) and Carlo A. Bonicelli.  A devout Roman Catholic, she grew up on the Iron Range of Minnesota, in a loving family. Ida remained close to her family in Schilpario and Bergamo, Italy until her death.

Ida graduated from the College of Saint Catherine, St. Paul, Minnesota with a B.S. in Library Science.  As a young librarian, she was hired by the University of Notre Dame where she created the architecture library under Professor Frank Montana.  In 1963, she served on the advisory committee for the design of the Hesburgh Library that overlooks the football stadium.  She was honored in 1999 at the University for her work as the first librarian of the school of architecture and for her contribution to its accreditation.  Ida met her husband Anthony J. Trigiani at Notre Dame in 1953.  They were married in the Lady Chapel in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus on October 29, 1956.

Ten years later, Anthony and Ida moved their young family to Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  She was active in her church, she taught catechism at Sacred Heart Church Big Stone Gap and Saint Anthony’s Church in Norton.

Passionate about music and the arts, she was a member of the committee that brought The Community Concert Series to Wise County. She sang with the Community Chorus and was a lifelong member, former officer and certified state judge in the Dogwood Garden Club.  Ida was awarded the National Garden Club’s Distinguished Service Award in 2010. She was installed in the Mountain Empire Community College Foundation Hall of Fame in 2015.

She is survived by her seven children: Mary Yolanda, Lucia Anna, Adriana (husband Timothy), Antonia, Michael (wife Brandy), Carlo (wife Tina) and Francesca (husband Thomas) and seven grandchildren: Anna Christina, Matthew Calnan II, Mary Alessandra and Anthony Joseph Noone, Luca Andrea and Ella Marie Trigiani and Lucia Bonicelli Stephenson. 

Ida was preceded in death by her husband Anthony, her parents, brother Orlando (Geraldine), twin sister Irma (the Honorable Michael F. Godfrey), uncle Monsignor Don Andrea Spada and nephews Donald Bonicelli and Paul Godfrey.

Visitation will take place Sunday, August 13 from 5 to 8 pm at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, Virginia.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Anthony’s Church also in Norton. She will be interred with her husband in Our Lady of Mount Carmel New Cemetery, Roseto, Pennsylvania. LILA MUNSEY

NORTON, VA – Lila Munsey, 102, went to be with the Lord and join John, her lifetime love on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017 at her residence.  The last of her generation, she was born in Wise, Va. to the late John and Roxie Green, and was the widow of John Henry Munsey.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathy Munsey of Big Stone Gap, Va.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday, Aug.7, 2017 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.


BRADLEY LUNSFORD, JR.

NORTON, VA – Bradley Lunsford, Jr., 88, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tn. He was a son of the late Bradley Lunsford and Alice Watts Lunsford Sturgill. He was also preceded in death by his step father, Roscoe Sturgill; his sisters, Edith Lunsford, Georgia Farmer, and Ruth Ross; and a brother, Jimmy Lunsford.

He is survived by a sister, Betsy Downer of Worcester, Mass; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Fultz, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery in Norton, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.


MADELINE JENKINS

NORTON, VA – Madeline Carol Sturgill Jenkins, 72, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at her home in Norton. She was born in Pemberton, West Virginia to the late Levi Mark Sturgill and Edyth Ingells Tucker Sturgill. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Cecil Harrison Sturgill, Claude Levi Sturgill, William Lewis Sturgill and Walter Lee Sturgill; her sisters, Bessie Marie Sturgill Dempsey Jenkins, Margie Lucille Sturgill Shrader; and her son, Robert Wayne Jenkins, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Wayne (Bob) Jenkins of Norton, Va. her daughter, Rebecca Carol Jenkins of Norton, Va.; eight grandchildren, a sister, Lillian Caroline Sturgill Buckland; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Freddie Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton.

The family wishes to thank those individuals that provided care and assistance to Madeline for the last few weeks.
