KALLIS J. HALL

DUFFIELD, VA - Kallis J. Hall, 79, of the Jasper community, passed away Tuesday morning July 25, 2017 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Hall spent forty years on construction jobs in and around Washington, DC.  After his retirement, he returned to Southwest Virginia, where he enjoyed planting and growing different fruit trees and blueberries, spending a lot of time with his church and a very special cousin, Jimmy Qualls.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Taylor Hall, his parents Kallis and Anna Hall, his grandparents:  Estella and Frank Qualls, and Elisha and Rebecca Hall, and a sister, Margaret.

He is survived by a son, Jeffrey Hall, a daughter, Barby Hall-Griffith and her husband, Jerry, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins, his special aunts and uncle: Mabel Qualls, Imogene Jennings, Edward Qualls and his wife, Dorothy; his sisters: Wonda James, Velma Pacheco, and June Hudak; and his brothers:  Harold and Carroll Hall.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 28, at the Jasper Central Baptist Church, with the Reverend Wayne Thomas officiating and the Wayne Maness Choir providing music.  Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA, with family and close friends serving as pallbearers.

MYRTLE H. HAMILTON

A precious life, memories of which we’ll keep, of times and places, laughter and tears.

APPALACHIA, VA – Myrtle H. Hamilton, 88, died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at her home.

She is survived by her longtime partner, Ronnie Livesay of Appalachia, Va.; and his children, Buddy Livesay of Keokee, Va. and Crystal Collier of Appalachia, Va.; and her son, James Hamilton of Chicago, Il.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home, in Norton, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Hamilton Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, Va.


CORBIT "TIB" COFFEY

NORTON, VA – Corbit Frank (Tib) Coffey, 83, died July 16, 2017 at his residence in Jonesville, Va. Tib had made his home in Norton, VA until the past two years He was a lifetime member and Sargent of the Norton Rescue Squad and a member of Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gran and Elsie Estep Coffey; his brothers, Fred Coffey and Gene Coffey; and a sister, Rushie Coffey.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Lora Sloce of Jonesville, Va., Jeannie Cowden and her husband Wayne of Norton, Va., Jeff Coffey and his wife Becky of Norton, Va., Judy Oliver of Richmond, Va., Jennifer Owens and her husband Todd of Tn. and Chris Taylor of Tn.; grand- nieces and grand-nephews, Michael Williams and his wife Shauna of Coeburn, Va., James Andrew Funk and his wife Amanda of Coeburn, Va., Jason Funk and his wife Jackie of Wise, Va., Hank Oliver of Richmond, Va., Molly Lumsdum of Richmond, Va., Aaron Cowden of Norton, Va. and Dusty Cowden and his wife Michelle of Norton, Va.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 pm Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ralph McFarland officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.

WILLIAM E. SHOCKLEY

NORTON, VA - William E. “Moe” Shockley, 84, died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Norton Community Hospital.

Born in the Dorchester community of Norton, “Moe” was a retired UMWA coal miner. He was a son of Moyer and Margaret Trent Shanks Shockley.  His wife, Iva Brickey Shockley and his two daughters, Robin Lynn Shockley and Mary Shockley all preceded him in death.

Surviving are his sons: Tony Shockley and his fiancée, Rebecca Fields, Johnny Shockley and his fiancée Michelle Farmer, Clayton Shockley and his wife, Jessica; 6 grandchildren:  Autumn Mullins and her fiancé Brandon Howe, Audrionna Wells and her husband, Cameron, Dylan Shockley and his wife, Holly, Nathan Shockley, Carly Shockley, and Ciara Shockley; and 6 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 1 PM Wednesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  A funeral service will be at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel, with burial following at the Laurel Grove Cemetery.


MARGARET L. BLAIR

NORTON, VA – Margaret L. Anderson Blair, 87, died Monday, July 10, 2017, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. She was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University and retired as a teacher and librarian at Trotwood-Madison Township Schools in Ohio. She was a member of the Lovelady Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution. She was a member of Norton Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob G. “Jack” Blair, Jr.; a daughter, Karen Louise Blair; her parents, John Earl Anderson and Ferol Shelburne Anderson and a sister, Mary Lynne Croom.

She is survived by her sister, Pauline Hagy of Norton, Va.; a niece, Margaret Lynne Cress and her husband Joe of Abingdon, Va.; a nephew, Martin Hagy and his wife Mary of Norton, Va.; great nieces, Amy Hagy, Karen Hollick and Candice Calloway.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, July 14, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Wells officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Va. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:15 am to travel in procession to the cemetery.

ERICH DAVIS

WISE, VA - Erich Cleveland Davis, 39, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at his home following a hard-fought battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease.)  Erich was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Davis, his parents, Teresa Gilliam and Thomas Davis, Sr., his brother, Tommy Davis, Jr., his sisters, Misty Hadder and Brandi Davis, a niece, Hannah Davis, and a host of cousins and friends, including his best friend, Brandon Petro.  The Davis family expresses their deep appreciation to Marilyn Cooke, Erich’s mother-in-law and devoted care giver, and to the Virginia ALS Association for their kindness and support.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  The funeral service will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Tom Renfro and the Reverend Roger Barker officiating.  The graveside service and burial will be at 1 PM Saturday in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.  Family and friends will gather at the funeral home between 12:00 noon and 12:30 PM Saturday, from where they will then travel in procession to the cemetery.  Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home is serving the Davis family.

DONALD E. EARLS

NORTON, VA – Donald E. Earls, age 75, a long-time resident of Norton, died at Norton Community Hospital on June 20, 2017.

Don was the son of Willie H. and Zella Mae Hunnicutt Earls. He graduated from John I. Burton High School, attended Clinch Valley College, and graduated from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

Following graduation, Don spent four years in the United States Air Force, one of which was spent in Vietnam. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to the U.S. to attend law school at Washington and Lee University. After graduation, Don was a law clerk for the Hon. H. Emory Widener who presided over the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.

Upon returning to Norton, Don joined the law firm of Cline and McAfee. While there he was instrumental in preparing a case the firm argued in front of the United States Supreme Court. Earls then joined the law firm of Earls, Wolfe, and Farmer before going out on his own as an attorney.

In 1968 Earls married Sandra Elizabeth Stallard. In their 49 year marriage, there were four children: Edie, Julie (Jason), Matthew, and Mark. Don is survived by his wife, three children, and two grandchildren whom he adored, Ayden and Jiya. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Arney (Sam), a brother William Roger, a brother-in-law, David Stallard (Vickie) and several nephews and nieces.

Don was active in several fraternal and military organizations. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church where he served in positions of leadership.

Don is preceded in death by his parents as well as his beloved son, Matt. A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, July 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 1009 Virginia Ave NW, Norton, VA. A reception will be held following the service in the parish hall.

ROY REX HILL

NORTON, VA – Roy Rex Hill, 62, died Monday, July 3, 2017, at Norton Community Hospital. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Deliverance Fellowship Church in Norton, Va. He was a son of the late Claude Swanson Hill and Clara Nadine Adkins Hill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Hill and Elmer Hill.

He is survived by two sons, Matthew Hill and his fiancé, Alechia Mullins, of Wise, Va. and Jonathan Hill and his wife Amanda of Bristol, Va.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis Hill of Kingsport, Tn. and Johnny Hill and his wife Penny of Clintwood, Va.; a half-sister, Violet Hill Hancock of Gainesville, FL.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Hunsucker officiating.
