CONNIE SUE BARKER

WISE, AV – Connie Sue Barker, 69, of Indian Creek Road, died Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Norton Community Hospital.  Sue was a daughter of the late Carl and Juanita Price Wampler.

She is survived by her husband, Dallas Barker, her son Dallas Barker, Jr. and his wife, Pat of Chester, VA, her sister, Kathy Harris, her brother, Larry Wampler and his wife, Linda Kay, her two grandsons Austin and Conner Barker, and several nieces and nephews.

The family of Connie Sue Barker will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, November 24 at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.


BETTY SNODGRASS VAUGHAN

APPALACHIA, VA - Betty Snodgrass Vaughan, age 83 of Appalachia, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at her home. She was born to the late John Henry Snodgrass and Ina Mae Hughes Snodgrass on December 2, 1933.

Betty attended Big Stone Gap School and Appalachia High School, before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Ed Vaughan, Jr.

Family and friends were Betty’s passion and delight. Nothing made her happier than entering the field of education later in life as a teacher’s aide at Appalachia Elementary School.  She spent numerous years working with Special Services, multiple grade levels, and lastly in first grade – her favorite. 

Betty grew up with a large, close-knit family and is survived by her son, Stanley Vaughan, her  two daughters, Sandra Baker and husband Bobby Baker, and Melanie Johnson and husband Keith Johnson.  She is survived by brothers Edwin, Billy Joe, and Ronnie Snodgrass; as well as sisters Joyce Lackey and Mary Ruth Laster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Vaughan, Jr., and daughter Rhonda Jean, brothers John Bradley, Allen, and Douglas Merle Snodgrass, as well as sisters Canzada Sneed and Helen Anderson.               

She also leaves behind grandchildren, Ava Vaughan, Makayla Daniel Boyd and husband Reece, Jonathan Vaughan, and Brett Daniel and wife Jessica, as well as five great grandchildren and numerous loving relatives and friends.

Betty requested a Celebration of Life in lieu of a funeral. The celebration will take place on Thursday, November 16 at The Country Cabin in Norton, Virginia from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. 

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for and prayed for her during her illness.   Wellmont Hospice was an invaluable source of care and comfort to both Betty and the family.

WILLIAM HOWARD WILSON

EAST STONE GAP, VA- William Howard Wilson, 94, died Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Johnson City Medical Center.  He was a son of Hobert and Edna May Petitt Wilson, born in Esserville, VA.   William was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in both World War II and the Korean War.  He was a former POW and was wounded in action during the war, thus being a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Following his military service, Mr. Wilson was a UMWA coal miner, working until his retirement for Westmoreland Coal Company. 

Surviving are his wife, Josephine Morgan Wilson, his children:  Lanny H. Wilson, Larry Wayne Wilson, and Tandy Renee Wilson; his seven grandchildren:  Kimberly Sue Crowson, Eric William Wilson, Brian Wayne Wilson, Miranda Renee Kilgore, Derrick Seth Kilgore, Cody Wilson LaMountain, and Cheyenne Autumn Baker; his eight great grandchildren:  Christopher Crowson, Ciera Wilson, Connor Wilson, Devin Wilson, Alexandra Riley Wilson, Kayley Grace Kilgore, Greyson Seth Kilgore, and Lauren Kilgore.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 2 PM Monday, November 13 at the Riverside Cemetery in East Stone Gap, VA.  The Virginia National Guard Honors Team and veterans’ associations will provide honors, Eric Wilson will officiate the service.  Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home of Norton, VA is serving the Wilson family.


ROBIN KEENE

NORTON, VA – Robin Keene, 56, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Chandler, a brother, Alex Chandler and a sister, Iris Monroe.

She is survived by her former husband, Delmar McFall; a son, Eric McFall; a granddaughter, Savanna McFall; her mother, Carolyn Scott Bowman.; two brothers, Rickey Chandler and Randy Chandler; and a sister, Billie Jo Meadows.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 pm Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Friday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Johnny Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.


PATRICIA ANN COLLINS

NORTON, VA – Patricia Ann Collins, 68, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Danny C. Collins in 2012.

Surviving are her children: Danny P. (Jennifer) Collins, Matthew G. (Wanda) Collins, Michael O. Collins, and Amanda (Ronnie Gardner) Gibson; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her brother, Tony Ballistreri, and her sister, Glennette Orender.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  A funeral service will be at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel.  Family and friends will gather between 1 PM and 1:30 PM Friday at the funeral home from where they will travel in procession to the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for burial.
