TERRIE LYNN SLEMP

KINGSPORT, TN – Terrie Lynn Cowden Slemp, 51, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at her home in Kingsport, TN. She was a U.S. Navy veteran. She was a RN having worked at both Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN and Tucson Regional Medical Center, Tucson, AZ. She had attended the Weber City Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Joseph Cowden.

She is survived by her mother, Susan Brummette Cowden of Kingsport, TN; her husband, Ricky Slemp of Kingsport, TN; a daughter, Aimee Lynn Pryor of Tucson, AZ; two sons, Luke Joseph Pryor and Jake Hunter Pryor, both of Tucson, AZ; two grandchildren, Madisyn Grace Landis and Warren Joseph Landis, both of Tucson, AZ; a brother, Matthew Joseph Cowden and his wife Tracy of Bristol, TN; a niece, Chesney Cowden; two nephews, Christian Cowden and Colton Cowden; two uncles, John Brummette and Jeff Brummette and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Graveside committal services will be conducted Monday morning, July 3, 2017, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Va. The time of graveside services will be announced at the funeral service.


DAVID OWENS

NORTON, VA - David Owens, 51, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. He was preceded in death by his father, James Ernest (Red) Owens, his brothers, Ernie Owens and Sam Owens and a nephew, Brandon Owens.

He is survived by his son, Zac Owens; his mother, Effie Owens; his sister, Trina Bell; his brothers,John Owens and his wife Beth, Rob Owens and his wife Roberta,several nieces and nephews.

The family will have private graveside services.


DORIS ADAMS

NORTON, VA – Doris Adams, 99, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was a daughter of the late Walter and Jesse Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Adams; a son, Glenn Adams; her brothers, Austin Hughes, Charles Hughes, Bob Hughes, Bill Hughes, Phillip Hughes and Roy Hughes.

She is survived by her daughter, Jill Adams Mahan and her husband Wayne; Joyce Adams Bruen and her husband Dr. Edward; a son, Kenneth Adams and Lana Kinser; grandchildren, Sterling Todd Bruen and his wife Emily, Whitney Bruen Azat and her husband Alexander, Trey Bruen, Aaron (Erin) Chapman, Kathy Mahan Mason, Adam Mahan, Jessee Adams and Luke Adams, great grandchildren, Ethan Bruen, Grant Bruen, Kaleb Bruen, Lillian Azat, Noah Azat, Eleanor Azat, Charlotte Azat, Adeline Mason, great great grandchildren, Tristan and Tiger Lily; sister, Maxine Dupree; sister-in-law, Mary Daugherty, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friend from 6-8 pm Friday, June 23, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, June 24, 2017, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ken Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. 


DONALD EDWARD EARLS

NORTON, VA - Donald Edward Earls, 75 died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Norton Community Hospital.

Don was a retired attorney and resident of Norton.

Full obituary information and service arrangements will be announced by his family in a few days ahead.


EVA MAE ROBBINS OWENS

NORTON, VA - Eva Mae Robbins Owens, 93, gained her Angel Wings and entered in to heaven June 21, 2017.  She was born August 18, 1923 to the late W.C. and Etta Sturgill Robbins.  Eva was a lifelong member of Wilson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.  She was active in all aspects of the church.  She loved the Ladies Auxiliary.  Her hobbies included:  canning, sewing, quilting and embroidery.  She loved to cook for her family.

She was preceded in death by three sisters:  Dixie Wells, Beulah Adams, and Nancy Light; and a brother, Hershel Robbins.  She leaves behind many friends and loved ones to mourn her passing.  She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Jack P. Owens, two daughters (and their husbands), Jackie (Delbert) Sturgill, Wise, Virginia, and Judy (Jim) Sturgill, Norton, Virginia.  Also surviving her is her brother, W.C. Robbins, Jr., Wise, Virginia, her four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; as well as her special caregivers of four years, Janice Swiney Cantrell and Diann Von.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Her funeral service will be at 7 PM in the funeral home with the Reverend Benny Boles and the Reverend Randy Sturgill officiating.  Friends and family will gather between 10:00 and 10:30 AM Friday where they will then travel in procession to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for committal and entombment.


DON JACK MULLINS

NORTON, VA - Don Jack Mullins, 87, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at Wellmont Bristol Hospice House in Bristol, TN.  A native of Norton, VA, he had made his home in Bluff City, TN for the past 3 years.

Don Jack, or “DJ” was a retired civil engineer and graduate of the University of Virginia.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Large Mullins, his sons, Don Mullins, Jr. and Chase Mullins, his sister Pauline Akers, and his brother and sister-in-law Haskell and Betty Mullins.

He is survived by his partner of 40 years, Cathy Barker, his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Mullins Rhyne and Ron, his brothers (and sisters-in-law) E.C. (Louise) Mullins, Bobby (Pat) Mullins, Johnny (Willene) Mullins and his sister (and brother-in-law), Phyllis (Hurley) Gough, Cathy’s family:  Chad Pennington and his son, Cory Scott, and Brandy and Dr. Jim Shrenker, and their children:  Erin, Alice, Austin, and Anderson. 

The family will receive friends at 4 PM Friday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  A celebration of Don Jack’s life will be at 5 PM PM in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Lee Kidd officiating. 

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Carris Hospice and Jaima Gemmell, and to Marty Large, for his love and devotion to DJ.


FRANKIE AYERS III

GATE CITY, VA - Frankie Ayers III, 37, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at his home following a long hard-fought illness.  Formerly of Norton, Virginia, Frankie was preceded in death by his grandparents:  Troy and Norma Bryant and Vic Jones; and his best friend, Jon Gardner.

He is survived by his wife Miranda, his daughter Zoie, his mom and dad, Tammie and Chris Jones, his grandmother, June Jones, and a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends at 6 PM Wednesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Frankie’s life will be celebrated with remembrances at 7 PM in the funeral home chapel with Jack Blanton leading the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.


EUNICE ANN CLARK

NORTON, VA – Eunice Ann Clark, 73, died Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tn. She was a former employee and cook at Glenn’s Friendly Market in Norton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Hylton and Roger Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter Delana Clark of Huntsville, Al.; two sons, John and Lisa Clark of Myrtle Beach, NC, Ricky Clark and Sheila Arwood of Wise, Va.; six grandchildren; one grandson on the way; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Buddy and Gloria Hylton of Winder, Ga., Jerry and Jenny Hylton of Wise, Va.; one sister, Barbara Turnmyre of Jenkins, Ky.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, Va. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Wayne Hager officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, Donation Processing Center, PO Box 7000, Albert Lea, MN 56007-8001.
