MACKENZIE ELIZABETH GRACE HAMM

JOHNSON CITY, TN - Mackenzie Elizabeth Grace Hamm, age 8 months, died Friday, August 24, 2018 at her home.  Mackenzie was born December 21, 2017 and is survived by her parents, Adrian Freeman and Matthew Walker; her sister, Madison Hamm, her grandmothers, Cathy Walker and Sherry Watts, her grandfather, John Watts, her great grandmas, Betty Freeman and Audrey Campbell and her uncle, Justin Freeman.  She was preceded in death by her grandpa, Danny Freeman and her great grandpa, Ralph Freeman.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, August 30 at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Her funeral service will be at 1 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel with burial following at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton.


VIRGINIA LOUISE SMITH

CASTLEWOOD, VA - Virginia Louise Smith, 76, died Thursday, August 23, 2018 at her home on Mew Road in Castlewood, VA.  Virginia was a daughter of the late Henry and Kathleen Rush Mickles.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters:  Andy Mickles, Ann Lee Peggs, James Thomas Mickles, and Birdi Barlow.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Larry Lowe, Castlewood, VA and Debbie and Rick Woodard, Abingdon, VA; her grandchildren Phillip (Alyssa), Melissa, Isaac, Melinda (Brandon), Barbara, Ricky James, Kevin, Courtney and Nathan; several great-grandchildren, her sisters, Clona Dollar, Eula Mutter and Betty Hamilton, and a brother Roy (Geneva) Mickles.

Graveside funeral services will conducted at 2 pm Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, Va. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1 pm.  Pallbearers will be,:  Phillip Smith, Isaac Smith, Brandon Turner, Larry Lowe, Jesse Rutledge, Ricky James Woodard, and Chase Kennedy.


JENNIFER GAIL MARTIN

COEBURN, VA – Jennifer Gail Martin, 52, of the Sandy Ridge community of Coeburn, VA passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 in Mitchell County, NC.  Born April 1, 1966, she is the daughter of Frank Day and the late Phyllis Day.  Jennifer was a very loving, caring, and “Proud Army Mother”.  She was a longtime employee of the Triple T in Nora, VA.   An infant son, Randy Lee Martin preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son Sgt. Kraig Allen Martin (U.S. Army) and his wife, Aubrey of Coeburn, VA, currently stationed in Baumholder, Germany, her loving boyfriend, Randall (Beeker) Charles of the home in Coeburn.  In addition to her father, there are two sisters, Denise and Sharon, and a host of friends and extended family.  Her “fur babies” were Bear and Survivor, and her “fur granddogs were Athena and Ares.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.


JANET TRINKLE

NORTON, VA - Janet Faye Trinkle, 87, died Saturday, August 11, 2018 at her home following an extended illness.

She was a daughter of Mary McCormick Workman and James F. Workman, Sr, and was the widow of Joseph A. Trinkle, Jr.  Janet loved her flowers and enjoyed feeding the birds in her yard. She was a retail associate with the former Ben Franklin Store in Norton and was of the Baptist faith.  She was preceded in death by her brothers:  Charles Workman, James Workman, Jr., Leroy Workman, Joe Eddie Workman, and infant Eugene Workman; two sisters, Lucille Pettry and Agnes Workman; and a son-in-law, Darrell Vanwinkle.

Surviving are her three daughters: Mary Jane Powers, Pikeville, KY, Cathy Vanwinkle, and Linda (Johnny) Gardner, all of Norton; three granddaughters and one grandson; three great granddaughters, her brothers, Carmel Workman, Norton VA, Gary Workman, Roanoke, VA, and a sister, Carolyn Bowman, Wise, VA.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 1 PM Tuesday, August 14 at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  Her funeral service will be at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel with burial following in the Laurel Grove Cemetery.


BEA HILL

NORTON, VA – Lucy “Bea” Hill, 97, died Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Norton Community Hospital. Bea was a member of the Wise Baptist Church. She was an Avon representative for over 45 years. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Joe Hill and a grandson, Anthony “Tony” Hill.

Bea is survived by her husband of 78 years, Glenn Hill of Norton, Va.; two daughters, Judith H. Bellamy and her husband Frank of Gate City, Va. and Deborah Kay Collins and her husband Steve of Wise, Va.; grandchildren, Randall Kevin Hill, Jason Todd Combs and his wife Laura, Matthew Judd Collins and Mark Jordan Collins and his wife Megan; great grandchildren, Kaleb Hill, Evan Hill, Molly Combs and Emily Combs; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Clisso Hill of Norton, Va.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday, August 13, 2018, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Winters officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at the Hill Family Cemetery on Powell River Road in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am Tuesday to travel in procession to the cemetery.

LEONARD McNEW

DUFFIELD, VA – Leonard McNew, 67, died Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at his residence in Duffield, VA. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was a former employee of Westmorland Coal Company. Leonard was a past President of the Norton Little League. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ann Stanley McNew and an infant brother.

He is survived by a daughter, Miracle Bohnert and her husband Daniel of Norton, Va; three sons, T.T. McNew and his wife Crystal of Norton, Va., Joey McNew of Berea, Ky. And Preston McNew of Duffield, Va; nine grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three brothers, Fred McNew of Duffield, Va., John McNew of Fort Blackmore, Va. and Ernest McNew of Kingsport, Tn.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel where Military rites will be conducted by local veteran’s groups and the Gate City Army National Guard.


SUSAN FORE

NORTON, VA - Laura Susan Fore, 68, died Monday, August 6, 2018 at Norton Community Hospital.  Susan was a daughter of the late Sam and Louise Blevins Lawson.  A son, Chad Fore and a sister, Anna Lawson Jackson also preceded her in death.  Susan was a 1968 graduate of John I. Burton High School in Norton and was a member of the 1972 graduating class at the former Clinch Valley College, now the University of Virginia’s College at Wise.  She taught in the Norton City Schools for 40 years and was proud to be in the third of four generations of public school educators.  She was a founding member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Norton.

Surviving are her granddaughters, Elizabeth Rebekah Fore and Lindsey Abigail Fore and their mother Michelle Fore all of Church Hill, TN, her brother-in-law, Darrel Jackson of Norton, a nephew Sam Jackson, Nashville, TN and several cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday, August 9 at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  A service of remembrance will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1775 Park Avenue SW, Norton, VA with Pastor Gwen Owens officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.  Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home of Norton is serving the Fore family.


DOROTHY BEVERLY

WISE, VA – Dorothy “Sally” Beverly, 65, passed away Friday, August 03, 2018, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Sally was a member of the Norton Christian Church. She was a former employee at the Wise County Health Department. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lola Mae Stiltner.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Arlin Beverly of Wise, Va.; three sisters, Brenda Stiltner of Jacksonville, Fla., Rebecca Scales and her husband Thomas of Lebanon, Va., Linda Yates and her husband Allen of Coeburn, Va.; nieces and nephews, Kara Yates, T.J. Scales, Alecia Miller, Justin Phelps, Jacob Phelps, Danny Collins, Chris Collins, Aubrey Yates, Austin Barnette and Logan Franklin; great niece, McKenzie Miller, and a great nephew, Jay Miller.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday, August 6, 2018, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm Monday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Wells officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the Wise Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am Tuesday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
