RILEY OAKES, JR.

NORTON, VA – Riley Franklin Oakes, Jr., 85, passed away 8:55 pm Thursday, October 31, 2018, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Franklin Oakes, Sr. and Cynthia Craiger Oakes; a son, Billy Oakes; five sisters and three brothers. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 243 of Norton, Va., DAV Chapter 56 of Wise, Va. and Korean War Veterans. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Oakes of Norton, Va.; a son, Ricky Pike and his wife Lana of Norton, Va.; three grandchildren, April Stidham and her husband Chris, Amanda McFall and her husband Josh and Ricki Pike; great grandchildren, Gabe Stidham, Michael Stidham, Sawyer Stidham, Kayleigh Stidham, Alyssa McFall and Abby McFall. He is also survived by sons, Melvin Oakes and his wife Jennifer, Gary Oakes and Ricky Oaks; a daughter, Sherrie Beverly; several grandchildren including Candace Bolling and Tiger Oakes; and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by a special friend who Riley called his son and who he loved to have dinner with, Tom and Ann Bates.

The family will receive friends from 5-9 pm Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ralph McFarland officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted.


CHARLES JOSEPH FIELDS

NORTON, VA – Charles Joseph Fields, 64, died Monday, October 15, 2018, at Norton Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Virginia Voni Fields.

He is survived by a sister, Angela Fields of Washington, DC.

Private memorial services will be conducted Saturday, October 20, 2018.

DAVID LEE FOSTER, SR.

NORTON, VA - David Lee Foster Sr. entered this life on September 28, 1952 and entered eternal life on Tuesday October 9th , 2018.  He was a baptized God fearing Jesus loving Believer. He was married to Lena Foster for over 14 year. David graduated from Appalachia High School then served in the USA Air Force from 1972 to 1980.  David loved organizing and had an aptitude for numbers which facilitated his support of the church and career choice.  He was a Deacon at Zion Baptist Church, served on the Clinch River Baptist Association as President. David was recently asked to serve on the board for Wise County Regional Development. He was a member of Haven of Praise Ministries, Appalachia Va. He was a fan of the New England Patriots football team.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Louise Foster Sr., his mother Oak Lee Cosby, his stepfather Alphonso C. Cosby and a brother, William Louise Foster Jr.

He Leaves to Mourn his wife, Lena Foster of Norton Va.; his sons, David Lee Foster Jr. of Richmond Va., Markus A. Foster of Appalachia Va., Christopher Foster and his wife Anastasia of Anchorage Alaska; a daughter, Stacy L. Salmon and her husband Richard of Charlotte NC.; eight stepchildren; seven grandchildren, Jahni M. Foster, Eviana, Amir Barack, Javoin, CJ, Lanayah and Jazzell and the youngest due January 2019, David Foster.  He also has fifty step grandchildren; three sisters, Christina Cosby Harris and her husband Lawrence of Hampton, Va., Maryellen Cosby Smalls of Newport News Va. and Alfreda Walton White of Norfolk Va.; one niece, Celeste V. Smalls; and two nephews, Jeremy S. Walton and Collin V. Smalls; one uncle, Pythian Daniels of Coeburn Va.; one Aunt Rose Mary Daniels Cox of Hampton Va.; and a host of cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm Monday, October 15, 2018, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church , 2332 Crab Orchard Rd, Coeburn, VA 24230/

EUGENE GRAHAM

NORTON, VA – Eugene Walton Graham, 91, died Monday, October 8, 2018, at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home in Duffield, Va. He retired in 1995 as a supervisor with the Bureau of Mines. He enjoyed working with coal miners, operators and owners to ensure a safe working environment and optimum productivity. Eugene was a WWII veteran having served in the US Navy and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Suthers Lodge AF & AM #259 in Norton, Va. He was a member of the Norton Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Greene Graham and a sister, Margaret Good.

He is survived by his daughter Dottie Graham of the home, granddaughter Megan Cannon and her husband James, 2 great grandchildren, Abigail and Declan all of Knoxville, TN, niece, Marcy Hammock an her husband Vern, great niece Julie, niece Pat Poland and her husband James, great nephew Brandon all of Dallas, Tx, Great nephew Jason Poland of Amarillo, Tx.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday, October, 10, 2018, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor James Wells officiating. Military committal services will be conducted at 1 pm Thursday at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
