WALTER WELLS, JR.

NORTON, VA - Walter Wells, Jr., 89, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 unexpectedly at Mountain View Regional Medical Center.  “Jr.” was born at home in Wise County, Virginia, August 17, 1928.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nadine Gilliam Wells, as well as his parents Walter and Amanda Roberts Wells and his in-laws, Walker and Bessie Gilliam, his brothers: Ed Wells, Burley Wells and Glenn “Doc” Wells; his sisters:  Nora Bateman, Edith Stidham, and Thelma Lawson. 

He is survived by his daughter, Mar La Wells Hall, his special “fur child” and “grand kitty” Lila Mae and Trixi; his extra special niece, Wanda Wells Bailey, Kingsport, TN special nieces: Susie Bradley, Norton, VA,  and Debbie Boone, Wise, VA, a nephew, Mark Wells, Kingsport, TN, his brother, Billy Wells and sister, Minnie Wells, and a very special person to “Mr. Jr.” Lacey Frye, Wise, VA, Sandy and Gary Coeburn and several other nieces and nephews.

Upon his retirement from Suburban Gas, he enjoyed traveling on bus tours throughout the U.S. with is wife, Nadine.  He also enjoyed many trips to Gatlinburg and other places on vacation with Juanita and Rabbit and Danny and Wilma.  Adventures were made, never knowing where he might end up, with his daughter, loving it once he arrived at its final destination.

Jr. had a great love of birds and had the pleasure of a falcon that would make an appearance occasionally.

He was a member of the Central Freewill Baptist Church, and he will be missed by his church family and many friends, but most of all by his daughter and niece, Wanda, who will miss their “daddy”.

The family extends a very special, “THANK YOU!” to the Norton Rescue Squad and the Norton Fire Department who came to his home to help, and to Dr. Jack Cox and Dr. Happy Smith and the hospital staff for their compassion in their time of need. 

The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.  The funeral service will be at 8 PM in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Gary Hill officiating.  Family and friends will gather at 11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home, where they will then travel in procession to the Wells Family Cemetery in Esserville where military honors will be provided by the Virginia National Guard Honors Team and local veteran services organizations.


PATRICIA BRICKEY

NORTON, VA – Leona Patricia “Trish” Brickey, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at her home in Norton. She was a nurses aid at the former Park Avenue and St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a founder and administrator of the Norton Christian School and Norton Bible Institute Seminary. Trish was an ordained minister and a Sunday school teacher. She was a former teacher at Wise County Christian School. She was a former employee at Frontier Health and the Job Corps. She was a daughter of the late James Oliver Phillips and Mildred Pauline Clark Phillips. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Phillips Coffey and Mary Sue Phillips.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Joseph A. Brickey of Norton, Va.; her children, Mia Maria Brickey Smith and her husband Darren of Norton, Va., Joseph Brickey, II and his friend Kathy of Norton, Va., Israel Patton Brickey of Norton, Va. and Candace Joleen Brickey Freeman and her husband Chad of Wise, Va.; Grandchildren, Priscilla Smith Funk and her husband Josh, T.J. Brickey, Levi Brickey, Brett Freeman, Alexis Brickey, Savannah Brickey and Dasanye Smith; great grandchildren, Jossalyn Funk and Kyle Funk; Sisters, Roxie Raleigh and her husband Ronald, Ann Culbertson and her husband Ray, and Christine Trigg; her brother, James Oliver Phillips, Jr. and his wife Sheila; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with pastors Lee Stidham, Robert Fultz, Jr. and Danny Smith officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am to travel in procession to the cemetery.


JACK TRIGG

CEDAR BLUFF, VA – Jack Trigg, 80, died Monday. Jan. 1, 2018, at his home in Cedar Bluff, Va. He was known as a pioneer minister with 55 years of service in the ministry. He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Betty Stidham Trigg; four brothers, Louie Trigg, Ralph Trigg, Robert Trigg and Junior Trigg; three sisters, Ruth Hall, Bertie Johnson and Thelma Trigg.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christine Phillips Trigg of Cedar Bluff, Va.; a son, Joel Trigg and his wife Tammy of Kingsport, Tn.; three grandchildren, Jordan Trigg, Hannah Trigg and Rachael Trigg; a sister, Doris King of Florida; a brother, Joe Trigg of Florida; a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Revs. Lee Stidham, David Lee Horton and Arnold King officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 am Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am to travel in procession to the cemetery.

ARTHUR DANNY DAVIS

NORTON, VA - Arthur Danny Davis, 79, went to be with The LORD on Monday, January 1, 2018, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.  A.D., as he was known by his family and friends, was a celebrated baseball player.  He enjoyed the sport so much that he continued to play men’s softball with his son when he was in his late 50’s.  A.D. also loved gardening.  He taught many people how to produce a thriving vegetable garden.  His delicious vegetables have been enjoyed from Richmond, VA to Wise County.

A.D. worked for the City of Richmond, VA for twelve years.  He returned to Norton, VA and retired from Westmoreland Coal Company in 1995.  He enjoyed hard work so much that he continued helping others with their landscaping and yard work until he was 77 years of age.

A.D. was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.  He always had a smile on his face and plenty of time to play with his grandchildren.  He will truly be missed by all.

A.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ettie Davis; an infant daughter, Regina Gail Davis; brothers, Rob Davis and Carl Davis; sisters, Edith Niece and Hazel Davis.

A.D. is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judith Davis; two children, Tammy Carty and her husband Jeff, Danny Davis and his wife Monica; five grandchildren, Emily Stidham, Sarina Collins, Derick Davis, Isabella Davis, and Dylan Davis; three great grandchildren, Taylor Gardner, Madison Gardner, and Gavin Collins; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clifford Bowman officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 am Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am to travel in procession to the cemetery.
